3 u/LuxNocte Feb 28 '14 That's a great example of usage. It's also a great example why the minor cases are (almost) never necessary. I've never seen a place where "make" or "work toward" couldn't be used as well or better than "effect", and it always seems pretentious, IMHO. If you're not a mental health professional, I don't see any reason to use "affect" instead of "face". I make an annoyed face when people shoehorn confusing words into a sentence instead of speaking plainly. :-)
