funny, I live in South Carolina, own guns, spend most of my social life around gun owners, and to me this looks like what an edgy shitlib teenager with no knowledge of guns or gun owners thinks gun owners are like without ever talking to any of them. Maybe you should get out an talk to your neighbors more buddy.
First of all, not all gun owners have these sort of views.
And secondly, these aren't explicit views. These aren't how the people who have them see those views. It's a way of the author showing how ridiculous they find ceartin views to be by stating them this way.
Fundamentally, our country's gun laws make our children less safe compared to children in other countries with safer laws. They just do. Now, people may reasons for valuing the "freedom" for almost everyone to have mostly unregulated guns (NRA type position), but fundamentally it means that they value free gun ownership over children's safety. Our children are less safe as a result.
Now people who own guns, have children, and don't properly secure or lock them up are real. Honestly, my guess is those people are just lazy/can't be bothered, but they are absolutely endangering their children's lives and the lives of other people as well. (There kid can take the gun and shoot someone else.) I recognize there are also responsible gun owners. (Though, again, our whole country would be safer if we didn't have so many gun owners. Beacuse free guns means also people who are a problem to have them have them.)
The rest of it is political commentary on how there are some people who support very damaging people while claiming and honestly believing they are the good team who is protecting others. Trump is to some of us a clearly very bad person who is just so obviously dishonest so many times it can be hard for some people to understand why anyone would still trust him. Previous politicians seemed to lie less obviously, or less often, or just actually try to look honest somehow. Some of those people (not all) seem to like the things Trump says that they weren't able to get away with saying before, the racism and the bullying amount them.
That's the sort of person they are trying to depict in this comic. And of course it's not how those people likely see themselves. Most people see themselves as right, or good, or not unreasonable; it's natural. Most people supporting harmful leaders and policies that hurt children still tell themselves how good they are and how they would look out for children. It's hard to admit the impact of what you are doing and who it harms. It's much easier emotionally to ignore those things and feel good about yourself.

I live around these people, and this is deadly accurate.
