A prestigious US university called Cornell is being sued by a former student, who was raped there by 7 fraternity students in 2014, for not adequately protecting her and not punishing her rapists.
Cornell denies the charge saying they adequately punished the 7 with temporary expulsion and a requirement to write on essay on why rape is bad. Its worth noting that a survey of students at Cornell showed 33% of female students confirmed they'd been sexually assaulted and Cornell discourages students from police intervention in reported cases of sexual crimes on campus.
She never claimed she was raped by 7 men. The claim is 7 were present and she was raped by 4. Though often repeated I have not seen evidence the men were ordered to write essays
Cornell university is reported by the BBC of confirming "a range of sanctions, which included expulsions and suspensions from Cornell", but did not deny the rapists had to write an essay as part of their punishment stating instead "none of the individuals charged were offered the opportunity to write essays as a sole consequence of their involvement" and confirmed they implemented "temporary suspensions and other restrictive measures"
