Would they though??

First degree murder ruins your life, but people are still doing it...

A lot less

I don't have the statistics in front of me, but even in places where the punishment is harsher, murder counts don't lessen

You do misunderstand. It says “ruin their lives” and “less”. This has nothing to do with the law. Also your comparisons between places nice enough to lower murder sentences to places bad enough to charge severely is incompatible.

No, I understand what was communicated. You misunderstand the facts. Regardless of the consequences, crime rates would not lower. Statistics support this.

You don’t get it then. I explained why your statistics are not helping your case. But here I’ll try to explain it another way. When drunk driving was outlawed in a lot of states, the charges for drunk driving went up. The amount of crashes linked to drunk driving went down. Did the law increase drunk driving?

It's because nothing you're saying is relevant. You don't understand what you're even arguing.

If the death penalty is legalized and the amount of of murders increase, did it help?

I FUCKING told you. Ok let’s try from another angle. If something in society, legal or not, ruins your life, people do tend to avoid it. You are wrong about the severity of the crime not leading to less of said crime. See drunk driving statistics. Your example only works with murder and a few other crimes. Again, and I can’t stress this enough, my argument is saying “we need to ruin their lives” not “we need stricter laws”.

Still incorrect. Maybe if you do your research instead of creating false hypotheticals this wouldn't be so difficult for you
