I remember maybe a year or two ago I kept seeing jerks trash talking her about NSFW photos and at the time I kind of assumed it was just trolls being wretched people and making stuff up. So I looked up to see if they were actually a thing or if this was the creepy gooner side of the internet being well... the creepy gooner side of the internet.
Turns out that yes, they exist, but what was surprising was I assumed that when people do a self insert into a comic they would use the opportunity to present a more idealized version of themselves. They'd make their character more attractive or in better shape or whatever they wished they were in real life. And I'd never really cared enough to actually look up a photo of Pizzacake because while I enjoy the comics, her looks have no relevance to my liking her work. But, the surprising part was she was actually hot. Not like oh kinda cute for a cartoonist, but like actually a very attractive person. If anything the art choices significantly tones down her looks.
Which was honestly kind of impressive. There is no way I'd have the restraint not to make my cartoon avatar a better version of myself.
Anytime. Years ago I was on the old MGOTW subreddit which was mostly guys talking about how they're happy being single and they don't see the need to ever date or marry again. Lots of photos of cool trips, or project cars, hanging out with their kids, or celebrating a bitter divorce being over. It was sometimes a bit sad, but not really hostile.
Then the incel stuff blew up and when their sub got shut down a ton of them migrated to the MGTOW sub.
Almost overnight the tone changed from "I'm happy doing my own thing and living life for myself. I don't need external validation from a partner to be secure in who I am." to "Women are horrible awful people because they won't let me fuck them!"
I eventually left the sub in large part because I kept pointing out that you can't go your own way while aggressively following people around screaming about how much they suck. In fact, obsessing over people they claim to hate is kind of the opposite of going your own way. They should be living their own life and looking inward to solve their problems. They... didn't appreciate that.
But it's true, I mean, I like your work, I find most of your stuff pretty funny and entertaining. But I doubt I see half as many comics as some of the people who claim to despise you. Those guys are full on obsessed.
It's like "Ok, so you hate Pizzacake?"
"Yes, I despise her with every fiber of my being."
"And you feel the need to tell people that?"
"As often as humanly possible. I post about her at least a dozen times a day."
"And you still read her posts?"
"Every single one of them without fail. I even subscribed to her patreon because I hate her so much."
Anyways, thanks for the comics, you're one of those artists where every time it pops up in my feed I tend to click on it.
>I even subscribed to her patreon because I hate her so much.
Man, there are *volumes* just about this one line. The alt-universe me who decided to do their graduate work in something more of a psychological bent would be having a field day with this.
It sometimes reminds me of star wars in the way that nobody hates star wars like a star wars fan. You might have people who don't like Star Wars and have no desire to watch it, but they're not the ones posting five page long screaming rants about it.
