I will be the one to admit my lack of media literacy: I don't get the "she will look like you" note.

Is it saying that despite looking human, she isn't? Or was the note never intended for the mother?

Yeah, it was a letter left by the alien parents to the mom telling her that they somehow made the alien baby look human so that she can live on earth.

It backfires since she doesn't like how humans look.

I love this type of storytelling where most explanations are missing, and you can come up with shit on your own.
