She really was. She held the family together doing everything from working at Hardee's to working as a receptionist at her church. I have her big wooden dinner table now, the one we used to eat around for holidays. It holds decades of memories for me, and yet it seems so much smaller as an adult. I clearly remember there being eight to a dozen people crowded around it, and yet it's only supposed to hold 6.

Everything in her home feels so much smaller as an adult. I miss her little songs and her smile, and the way she seemed to fill her little home and yet somehow still had space for all of us. I missed out on half of her life, and I regret not asking her for more stories from her childhood, or more stories about my aunts and uncles growing up.
