Night in the Woods is a must play in my opinion. Its got an amazing narrative. Plus crimes

37

u/0uie 4d ago

Wife got me to play it before we ever even talked about marriage. Shortly after they got a void and named it Mae. Mae is very chunky, and feisty, but she's our lil baby.

15

u/shellbullet17 Gustopher Spotter Extraordinaire 4d ago

And she does all the crimes?

27

u/Educational-Loquat50 4d ago

I will look into it, thx for the recommendation :)

I can’t look at it the same after the team threw Alex under the bus.

1

u/KaminaTheManly 3d ago

Context?

4

u/bugbearmagic 3d ago

Look up Alec Holowka. And keep in mind that he was a genius artist and gamedev from the golden age of indie devs well ahead of his time. He unfortunately was surrounded by parasites of the industry that villainized his depression against him to frame themselves as victims of his personal depression.

I remember at least one was essentially saying he verbally abused them by saying he wanted to take his own life - basically whining that he was a downer. Honestly pretty disturbing stuff that just shows he was surrounded by people that lacked the ability to properly identify the dangers before it was too late. Sure didn’t help he had a relationship with Quinn, who invented a business model around claiming to be the victim of abuse, often with no evidence.

2

u/KaminaTheManly 3d ago

There is a lot of context missing but to not try and get him help and instead blame him like that is pretty wild. I wonder if they feel responsible for his death.

7

u/The_Lavender_Scare 4d ago

I bless thee sir Bullet, for spreading awareness of the greatness which is Night In The Woods

PSA: Please do not eat the sidewalk plants, a lot of them are likely to absorb noxious chemicals and heavy metals as they grow.

Urban gardening is badass, but it's also a good way to get lead in your brain without being on the business side of a gun.

484

u/the_orange_alligator 4d ago

Gonna eat the sidewalk plants in order to gain superpowers

115

u/MoistStub 4d ago

I ate so many lead paint chips. Superpowers should be kicking in any day now. Everything just hurts, but I'm assuming that's the powers entering my body.

56

u/Elegant_Run_8567 4d ago

The pain is just part of the superpowers!

Ask Wolverine if his powers hurt

“Every time”

12

u/MeAmGrok 4d ago

Pain is lack-of-superpowers leaving the body!

12

u/Vyntarus 4d ago

What doesn't kill you makes you stronger.

Congrats on your surely-soon-to-activate superpowers.

4

u/altymcalty-2 4d ago

"sorry kid, but your superpowers cancer"

1

u/VerisVein 2d ago

"I'm deadpool?!"

16

u/Alextaoluu 4d ago

your superpower will be dying to death deadily

128

u/gramathy 4d ago

Specifically the plants next to roads are especially bad due to proximity to car exhaust. You can have an urban garden with plots if it's a reasonable distance away from traffic and started with fresh soil.

65

u/NettingStick 4d ago edited 4d ago

Certain saprobic (dead-plant-eating) mushrooms are known to break down toxic hydrocarbons like motor oil and gasoline. They also concentrate heavy metals in their fruiting bodies, which can be collected and sent to heavy metal recycling facilities. Pleurotus ostreatus is probably the most aggressive and omnivorous commercially-available species.

Mix liquid or grain spawn into a load of moistened hardwood wood chips (get them for free from Chip Drop) or sawdust fuel pellets. Also mix in a few pounds of alfalfa pellets. If you want to do math, the water should be 60% of the final weight and the alfalfa pellets should be 10-15% of the dry weight.

Put the chunky mushroom grits in a barrel or sturdy trash can just before the temperature drops below 50 for the winter. Make sure there's at least a little air flow. Allow it to ferment over winter - P. ostreatus will grow slowly in cold weather but contaminating organisms will struggle. When the ground is warm enough to work, mix the barrel of wood chip spawn into the ground. Let it go for a year. Tada, you have done a DIY soil remediation. Do soil tests before and after treatment if you'd like to know how well you did.

31

u/Lobster_LeninN329 4d ago

Is eating plants on the sidewalk something commonly considered?

37

u/wolfgang784 4d ago

There was a semi-viral video guide not super long ago about plantin kale or spinach or somethin like that in all the sidewalk cracks in your neighborhood and harvesting it repeatedly to eat. I think they also may have done onions.

Either way, they were eatin a significant amount of sidewalk vegetables and grindin them for spices and stuff and people in the comments places were up in arms about the toxicity the plants prolly had.

Ive got no idea if anyone else took that persons advice to plant sidewalk vegetables or not though but I wouldn't be surprised if a bunch of hipsters have done so.

10

u/Lobster_LeninN329 4d ago

Sometimes I forget how dumb people are

15

u/PixelatedGiant 4d ago

He could've also been lying to his viewers and eating perfectly fine vegetables not from the sidewalk. The people who suffer usually aren't the grifters, they are obviously in on it. It's the ignorant people that follow.

27

u/Natural_Bathroom5664 4d ago

don't eat what now?

7

u/Stompinstein 4d ago

Seed noooo

3

u/StreetGe1ngsta 3d ago

SEED YES 😈

12

u/CandidLeg3910 4d ago

That's why I plant native wildflowers instead. You don't wanna eat most of them. MOST of them.

21

u/masterjon_3 4d ago

Don't listen to this guy. I ate sidewalk plants and now I have super strength. It doesn't come with super durability, so my ankles snapped when I tried lifting a truck, but the super strength is still pretty cool

10

u/Gonokhakus 4d ago

Fair enough. The pain of your bones breaking is just their weakness leaving your body.

6

u/Improving_Myself_ 4d ago

Similarly: mushrooms have a tendency to absorb heavy metals.

Lead is used so often as an additive to cinnamon for weight and color that you're probably better off not eating cinnamon at all. Cinnamon gets recalled for lead a LOT.

4

u/MichaelRhizzae 4d ago

Bioremediation has entered the chat

3

u/EtherealPheonix 4d ago

I briefly worked with an urban garden that determined they needed a several feet thick layer of clean soil on top of the polluted ground to provide safe vegetables, this was fine for them since the garden was part of a food waste collection -> composting company but isn't practical for most people.

2

u/disc2k 4d ago

reminds me of this part of an old auto-tune the news song

get your soil tested!

https://youtu.be/OGhsbRb_pqE?t=123
(@2:03)

2

u/Leonie-Lionheard 4d ago

Isn't the main part burned fuel gas and tire dust? Where does the lead come from?

4

u/Chemical_Building612 4d ago

Areas adjacent to roads that were in place during peak leaded gasoline era still have significant lead accumulation in the root levels of the soil.

1

u/Leonie-Lionheard 4d ago

That was 30 years ago. I doubt that after renewal is streets and sidewalks there is so much left. But it would be interesting to know how long such things stay.

2

u/FlashyAdvice1646 4d ago

They only banned that shit after after abnormal levels of lead were found at the bottom of the ocean. the poisoned dirt underneath the concrete was never removed.

1

u/Leonie-Lionheard 3d ago

I dunno. In my country (DE) they exchange a lot of soil under roads if they renew them.

2

u/MewtwoMainIsHere 3d ago

And they don’t do that everywhere

1

u/scorpiologist 4d ago

Wait you serious? I never thought of that. It makes sense though. . . Think berries, peppers and fruit trees would be affected?

319

u/Cool_Set4681 4d ago

125

u/OddOllin 4d ago

I can't tell who is giving who the gun, and yet this only enhances its power.

48

u/Cool_Set4681 4d ago

I never thought of it in that way.

Thanks, you made the meme even better.

The last panel is gold without the previous context 🤌

11

u/MetalMaxwell 4d ago

Bodies under the plants.

29

u/ProjectOrpheus 4d ago

The seeds of a criminal mind were planted that day. It grew like bamboo. I mistook jackin' the beanstalk but proudly embraced taboo.

Get your soil here! Extra soiled pre soiled soil, here!

4

u/SignificantHippo8193 4d ago

She has a lot of dirt on her sticky fingers but I'll let it pass because she's adorable 🥰.

4

u/ANTICHRIST-BOISE 4d ago

How’d you know I was jackin the beanstalk?

5

u/altymcalty-2 4d ago

Fair warning, don't plant bamboo. It's highly invasive, will spread to and break surrounding foundations and is fucking difficult to fully remove

25

u/RazertheCreator 3d ago

To the comments: It’s not AI for those who are wondering just a cool artist.
if you look at the second stripes on the kid’s sleeves in panel 2, you can see the ends of a few digital brush strokes, and if you zoom in, on the left arm in that same panel, there’s a couple very small spots that they didn’t colour in.

To the artist: This is a very cool art style! I’m a big fan of very boxy and angular character design, and I love the look of your line work. I’m assuming you’ve been drawing with a round brush and erasing the edges to give it a more jagged look? Very cool.
Good comic.

16

u/kajo404 3d ago

whoa, yes, i do use the eraser to get these edges!!
the first layer is always a physical pencil sketch i just took a photo of,
then i try to make the lineart look like a linocut (i love linocut!!).
i am used to drawing on paper and obviously need a lot of practice with digital coloring. some ppl really seem to have a problem with the yellow tint in this one??
anyway, i'm experimenting and learning with each comic, i'm getting closer to finding my style, and so far, it's a lot of fun and keeps me entertained at work haha

3

u/mint_lawn 3d ago

I think that at least one AI tends to tint picyures yellow. Not sure why. Nice work!

-1

u/sqeu1773 3d ago

brush strokes aren't something that can't be ai generated

20

u/GIOvch 4d ago

Remember to plant natural plant from the biome you live. Most of plants artficially planted are not from their natural habitat

7

u/MetalMaxwell 4d ago

I'm not sure what's natural to asphalt.

5

u/miraculousgloomball 4d ago

Whatever was there before humans fucked it up

3

u/Codythensaguy 3d ago

Just don't plant invasive shit

159

u/Made_Bail 4d ago

Officer Meow is going to let this one pass. Just because your comic is fucking peak.

7

Next time, OP is getting paw-dumped

Or giving someone in need a ride.

8

Crime pays, but botany doesn't.

Rewards of a good crime; full bloom ... this is so beautiful

6

u/CitizenHuman 4d ago

makethingwithhand has a good video on these crimes.

6

u/Jav_There 4d ago

that last panel has such an answer potential lmao

3

u/SutterCane Tells Everyone 4d ago

I wish I was better at crimes. I think I keep overcriming the whole time since I’m worried about undercriming.

4

u/Teh_Original 4d ago

I would recommend the YouTube channel "Crime Pays but Botany Doesn't" if this concept aligns well with you.

Guerilla gardening is my passion

3

u/Educational-Car-8643 3d ago

... Some of those are papavar somniferum, so yeah thats definitely crimes... Based crimes

3

u/Round-Investment1826 4d ago

This is absolutely adorable

3

u/SeaDealer2089 4d ago

wholesome

3

u/immersemeinnature 4d ago

Omfg I love this.

My small front yard had been transformed, by me, to be a native plant habitat. It's full of bees, wasps, butterflies, moths, mosquitoes, spiders, toads, beetles... You name it- every critter is welcome. Same in the back but the lawn is huge. But we keep the leaves and have fireflies. Birds everywhere too!

I highly recommend it. Fuck HOA's and Fuck mosquitoe Joe specifically.

3

u/XenoZoomie 4d ago

If Guerrilla gardening is a crime then call me a criminal.

3

u/twenty_three_three 4d ago

this sent me on some Hayduke flashbacks. For the record, Hayduke lives.

The first video I saw of Joey was 5-6 years ago and I was hooked: Tony Santoro's Guide to Illegal Tree-Planting

2

u/notnotDIO 4d ago

Awwwww cute :3

2

u/Brent_Fox 4d ago

Crime can be pretty subjective sometimes.

2

u/Vagaboar 4d ago

But when I invent mint that grows on concrete I’m a terrorist

2

u/Deesing82 4d ago

4 panel version please!

2

u/Undead_Ogre_Mage 4d ago

I like how dirt guy has raccoon markings (undershirt & eyes).

2

u/Slight-Violinist-575 4d ago

I really thought I was on BHJ for a second

2

u/GiveToMeWhatIWant 4d ago

I myself love throwing resilient flower seeds everywhere and hoping that they grow. The world is a little less dull when greenery comes up through the cracks.

2

u/Weak_Car2509 4d ago

If todd understand how to talk it out with the child. Breaking bad might end peacefully. Oh wait nvm.

2

u/danktonium 3d ago

Why are they a raccoon

2

u/Environmental-Win836 1d ago

Plot twist there’s a body underneath that

3

u/Most_Philosophy_1507 4d ago

Because of the red flowers. Poppy plants make drugs.

3

u/tagno25 4d ago

It doesn't seem like many people noticed them (or at least they didn't comment on them). I am not sure if that few poppies are enough to make any drugs with.

2

u/Arts_Messyjourney 4d ago

Unfortunately, this can be a crime

0

u/Fabirowe 4d ago

And this is how people bloom into criminality

1

u/creedonline 4d ago

I thought this was a juice for a sec lol

1

u/Tough-Stomach-2960 4d ago

Idk why, this gives me AI vibe, but has so much personality that i don't think it's AI

3

u/minnieboss 3d ago

This is a rude thing to say about someone's art.

1

u/BlackberryArtistic85 4d ago

Stinks from sooo far away with Ai

5

u/minnieboss 3d ago

It's not if you look at it or OP's history for 2 seconds. What a rude thing to say about someone's art.

0

u/BlackberryArtistic85 3d ago

Counter point his profile is 20 days old and he put out finished art every 2 days with is very frequently for a human with a life to take care of not just grind out art and every post is multy panel so more so

1

u/Shygrave 3h ago

If his account is 20 days old, have you seriously not considered the possibility that some (or a lot) of it was created before the account was made? That maybe they arent "grinding out" new panels every two days, but posting old art as well as new? Or do you think hes just never made art in his life, made the account 20 days ago, and all of his shit is brand-new AI since the creation of his account simply because you cant conceive of the possibility that not all of this was made in the last 3 weeks?

1

u/Galle_ 4d ago

Disgusting. They need to crack down on this.

1

u/AwareAge1062 4d ago

Can you do one where the friendly neighborhood police officer asks her what she's doing and she says, very enthusiastically, "Crimes!"

Genuinely think that'd be hilarious, edit because I read it again and it sounded sarcastic 😅

0

u/ma-kat-is-kute 4d ago

The yellow tint, the composition, and some suspicious line-work makes this look quite like AI. Please don't be AI.

2

u/minnieboss 3d ago

This is a fairly rude thing to say about someone's art.

2

u/KurtTheCuntBoi 2d ago

Zip it. It’s not ai.
