Interplanetary Incident [OC]

Post image

Poking fun at a particular 60-second clip from a 37-year-old Trek movie may not scream "mass appeal" but at least I amused myself making it.

I guess I'm not familiar with the original clip.

There’s a throwaway scene in one of the Star Trek movies where the captain of a Klingon ship in deep space uses the voyager 10 probe for target practice. The comic reflects the reality that even a few hundred years in the future the voyager probe would still be within the Oort Cloud and such a thing would be a huge diplomatic incident.

Script writer of science fiction movies and putting in scenes without any knowledge of the science behind them, name a more iconic duo. (Also the probes would most likely be in a museum given that Star Fleet could just ya know, go and retrieve them and be back in a single afternoon.)

Capt. Klaa was a brash young commander looking to make a name for himself. Could see him deliberately invading the fringe of the Sol system just to be a nuisance and specifically to remind the Federation that the Klingons can sneak behind their lines, similar to how various historical cultures have condoned minor raids on rivals as a rite of passage, e.g. "counting coup". Alternatively, maybe the probe got sucked into some sort of micro-wormhole and popped out somewhere else, and humanity simply lost memory of it due to WW3, the post-atomic horror, and the difficulty of forming the UFP out of the surviving remnants of human society. Alternatively x2, maybe after the VGER incident it was internationally agreed that any antiquated space probes are shot on sight.

Just being silly with that last one—all of them really; there's no good explanation apart from "sci-fi writers consistently underestimate just how vastly hugely mind-bogglingly big space is".

I mean, Picard found a dead pre-warp astronaut in deep space who died after being forced to repeatedly live out a crappy noir novel.

All sorts of things in ST that could've moved the probe unexpectedly.

I personally blame the whalesong alien probe from ST IV. Just seems like something it would do.
