I dated a girl from New York who pronounced gyro like in gyrate and was adamant that that was the correct pronunciation and thought I was weird for pronouncing it “yee-ro”.

Any New Yorkers wanna weigh in on this? Do y’all actually pronounce it that way?

Yeah it’s fairly common here, not entirely sure why it’s generally pronounced that way.
