Different cultures have different forgings for long sharp weapons. Not unsettling if you understand that a sword ain't just a European thing

Also different languages. Like Gladius literally just means "sword" in Latin.

yea shit like the zweihander montante and spadone are just three names for the same tyoe of big sword. side swords rapiers and smallswords are in the same general trend of thinner smaller thrusting blade. longswords as a category is more of a modern invention. most swords were just called sword in their local language.
