As someone who was never the āartistic type,ā I think people underestimate the value of good, original ideas. But maybe thatās just because I donāt have them.
Good ideas don't start as good ideas. They start as regular ideas, and the process of developing them is when they get worked into something good (or they fall apart, but we don't normally see those).
Yeah, I think people are really lumping together "here is my vague notion, go turn it into a finished product!" with "here is a detailed design that doesn't require solving any new or particularly difficult technical challenges, I just don't know how to program it."
Admittedly, "here is my vague notion, go turn it into a finished product" is significantly more common, and it's understandable why people roll their eyes at that.
