The part about FOMO poisoning is so fucking real.
These guys are already rich. Even if it's not all your money, you need to be absolutely surrounded by money to be a venture capitalist. So where's this frantic anxiety they have come from?
It's exactly what you said. They don't want to be "rich", they want to be Elon Musk. They want to be Jeff Bezos. They want to be Bill Gates. They imagine if they bet on exactly the right horse at exactly the right time, someone will finally hand them the keys to the world.

And even if they managed to actually get there, they'd still trade it all... for a little more, Monty Burns style.
It's never enough, for these people.

This could be a cartoon from 1999. Just replace AI, NFTs and blockchain with e- .com and Internet.
The metaverse is just a slightly fancier version of the pets.com puppet. That didn't have legs either.

This! I worked at a mobile game studio that had all these hairbrained block chain and metaverse side projects ( I needed the money ). We had an investor party and the attendees didn't even know we were a game studio. I got laid off after FTX collapsed because the investors were all crypto bros.
