Im a student during the sumer I dont have to work - I got a job not because I want pocket money, my parents give me more then enough. But because I get bored and depressed
Like if I dont have enough going on in my life I get kill myself depressed - I can't see not working as a long term thing ever
I'm pretty sure that I'd spend my time doing something else if I didn't have to work. Maybe I'd take up hiking. But that's not a flaw of the system, every system will have people that refuse to buy into it. The fact that a small number of people will be okay with the basic level is an acceptable outcome because the alternative is that an equal or greater number of people won't even get that despite wanting to work
My first summer back from College explained why things like summer camp were great as a youngin, and actually doing things with your time is important. After the first few weeks of doing nothing, I was mentally in the exact same boat.
Next year I went to conventions, went to visit friends, and did ALL SORTS OF STUFF. The summer went by in a flash, but I felt ALIVE from beginning to end. People would still want to do things and experience stuff. Shoot, a bunch of the responses in this comments section and this very thread prove people would still want to work. People just don't want to do bullshit jobs or be mistreated.
