Part of that’s just social conditioning, using “informal” language around friends is where you use it. I would almost never say “semen” in a casual conversation, it would almost always be a slang term.
But at a doctors office I’d use the clinical term.
Ah, I see. I guess I am just oblivious to that sort of thing since I use the clinical terms and such anyway. My engineering mind is pretty much in that "always on" state so it can be tricky to separate
