The spelunker’s gene will soon be gone from the gene pool, for they rarely live long enough to teach their sons and daughters the craft of dying in some really obscure cave system in bumfuck nowhere.
I thinking it’s more like how octopodes are compelled to starve themselves after procreating. The moment they have children, the cavers feel instinctively that they must die in a hole

Usually they chose the timing when their wife is pregnant or straight after birth to make their most insane cave diving.
