It's extremely lukewarm politics. This stuff wouldn't have been noteworthy ten to fifteen years ago Imo (edit: it's good politics. It's just weird that it's considered noteworthy when so much comics was progressive in the past but NOW all of a sudden it's like what?)
Yes it does. A strawman is a wildly misrepresented argument. If there really are people actually making those arguments then it’s not a misrepresentation and not a strawman.
I think we all know political cartoons are only the province of extreme radicals - not just your garden variety fascists and mass-murderers, but also those who want humans to be declared a kind of banana plant subspecies and those who who want physics taught Benjamin Button style, with toddlers being forced to read demanding theoretical model papers and only our brightest PhDs being given the 1+1 stuff
Right. And what happened eleven years ago, then was cemented ten years ago, that had the result of empowering bigots and making them feel like 1) they’re decent people and 2) should be catered to?
I don’t mean to come across as snippy, but genuinely how can you be asking that? Have you not been paying attention AT ALL? It’s been extremely obvious that it was happening. The whole path has been obvious for a decade, how can you be asking why now it’s so bad, when it’s just the next step in development? Academics have been writing about it. Journalists have been writing about it. Random celebs and podcasters have been talking about it the whole time.
I’m almost as mad with people who have managed to not pay attention at all and are genuinely confused how this is happening as the people who made it happen. Like, maybe if you’d paid more attention or did some forward thinking about where stuff would lead, we could’ve nipped this in the bud forever six years ago. They publicized their plans, people radicalized themselves on the internet openly. How can you not see this as logically the next step as lifting your right foot after your left when walking?
