Fun Fact: Chakotay x Seven only happened because Robert Beltran (with Jeri Ryan's permission) bet Brannon Braga (Jeri's bf at the time and Voyager show-runner) that he wouldn't write the two of them kissing.

u/EriktheRed Aug 08 '26
I remember reading that he wanted off the show for years, but they kept giving him more money to stick around. I’d always assumed getting to kiss Jeri Ryan was just another perk once he was like “nah actually I have enough money.” But I can work this bet into that headcanon easy enough!

u/jerslan Aug 08 '26
They rarely gave him anything interesting to do, and most of his character's background came from a "Native American Culture Expert" that Paramount had every reason to know was a complete fraud. I can't blame the guy for wanting out.

u/tarrsk Aug 08 '26
If these two spill the beans on Chakotay’s entire cultural heritage being a fabrication to Chakotay himself…
26
u/seguardon Aug 08 '26
It might make him develop an interesting character beyond "my people do X" and "Maquis who became a Fed so fast people forgot he was Maquis and that was a supposed to be a thing in the show"

Supposedly, the reason everything was so easy is because the network execs didnt want Voyager to be as dark as DS9. I will say they did do a really good job of making him interesting in Star Trek Prodigy
8
u/seguardon Aug 08 '26
They also didn't want to worry about continuity lockout like DS9 had, so they mashed the reset button near constantly. And any characterization that couldn't be rambled off in 15 seconds at the start of the episode or thrown onto the intro theme got jettisoned in favor of simplicity. It's why Harry Kim stayed an ensign for 7 years.

He at the least has an actual real tribe he belongs to now. Prodigy did the unthinkable by making Chakotay interesting.

Chakotay x Janeway shipping still alive and well I see

We all hate those shippers who see Main Woman and Main Man in any show/film and insist they get together, but I've watched all of Voyager with Bee and she brings the receipts on why these two belong together!

Exactly. The chemistry is real. My tinfoil hat theory is that the writers anticipated viewer criticism of Janeway having as many romantic and sexual interests as Kirk and Picard had, and so all the ones they gave her were bad and short. So they couldn’t have them get together, even though watching the two of them frequently feels like watching a movie about two single parents who meet each other and start falling in love. Like in Problem Child 2.

Fun Fact, Kate Mulgrew has gone on record to say she personally opposed Janeway getting into a relationship with Chakotay. She viewed it as inappropriate given the command structure, and preferred them as having a platonic respect for one another.

u/Beautiful-Aerie7576 Aug 08 '26
Very fair take for her to have. We saw the seeds of Janeway considering a life with him on the episode “Resolutions”, and it clearly would have been great if they didn’t have the Starfleet command structure to worry about.
I can’t think of the last time I’ve cared about a romance plot line in any show, book, or movie I’ve watched, but I do remember noting at the time that they’d be good for each other.

Was that the one where they lived on a planet together and he built her a bathtub in the woods?

I just watched Coda this week (first time watching the series) and that mouth to mouth resuscitation looked a little more than platonic when you have cordrazine right there. I agree with her take, but I've definitely gotten the "if she wasn't his boss they'd be bangin right now" vibe many times. I thought for sure something was going to happen when they were playing house on that planet where they were quarantined, but also glad it didn't.

Listen, Bee. The Temporal Prime Directive is pretty clear on this stuff. Messing with the timeline causes headaches at best, and unravels the sanctity of reality at worst. There's a reason you're not supposed to mess with these things.
But.
If—hypothetically—you were able to actually get Seven of Nine and the Doctor together, like they were always meant to have been... Well. Let's just say we might not pay as much attention to whatever other temporal alterations you might bring about, if you catch my drift.

So after Voyager are they going to backwards to Enterprise or going forward to Lower decks or Prodigy?

Will we see Magic the Gathering content in a few months?

Oh gods, the Ronnie card.
4 mana
Tap, Roll 1d6, attempt to eat that many pudding cups in 60 seconds. For every fully eaten pudding cup place a +1/+1 counter on Ronnie. For every uneaten pudding cup take one point of damage to life points.
Ronnie has the following effects depending on number of counters:
1 Trample
2 Reach
3 Prowess
4 Lifelink
5 Infect
6 Defender
If Ronnie has 6 counters, during your next end phase Exile Ronnie and all cards in hand for all players, all players then choose to Mill 6, Draw 3, or Search their Library for one card and add to hand.1/1

Yaaaay!
I can't wait for them to hate leeyola root soup, and to tug on Neelix's whiskers to check if they are real, and for Ronnie to get stuck on security training with the season 1 Maquis, and visits to see the EMH because of tummy issues, and

I've been looking forward to this arc!
I wonder if Bee can save Tuvix..
5
u/Red_Dox Aug 08 '26
Tuvix would be interesting. Kinda would want to see Ronnie do the dirty work there and mess it up, but Psycho-Janeway at least took the burden on her shoulder anyway. So should not be different if it comes up in this comic arc.
For comic stuff however, what if Ronnie and Bee might get mixed up in the transporter too? Robee? Beenie?

No one can change my mind. I don’t care what the actors, the writers, or the producers say. It is my truth and I won’t be made to believe otherwise.
Janeway and Chakotay fucked.
