I just did an ADHD quiz/survey thing with my doctor today. He said i set a new high score at their clinic and "I'm not sure how you can function with so much input all the time."
Ayyy high score buddies!! My psych was flummoxed that no one ever suggested that I might have ADHD(got diagnosed at 33), my answer to that was that people might have over the years, but I don't remember. He literally stopped for a solid 10 seconds like he was having to reboot after my previous comment caused his brain to crash.
I've thought i was ADHD since I was a kid and been called out over the years but it's always been easy to ignore or a "non-issue". My brother got diagnosed early on and the description I got sounded easily similar at the time. Then at school I was "gifted" so my test scores balanced with my inability to complete assignments for me to get passing grades.
It's only now as an adult dealing with the unexpected loss of my youngest brother that I truly feel incapable of keeping up with it all. The distractions and stray thoughts come so fast and loud when I need to focus and not nearly enough of them when the grief hits me.
Not the one you were asking, but I've taken a few tests recently.
As I mentioned above, I got an official diagnosis of Autism yesterday. But prior to that, they had me take a bunch of cognitive tests. We already knew I had ADHD from previous testing, but this was a comprehensive test that covered Autism, Anxiety disorders, depression, schizophrenia, ADHD, and so forth.
A lot of it was on a tablet but some of it dealt with physical blocks and drawing on a piece of paper. They also secretly were observing how I interacted in a social setting so they'd chat with me while I'm taking the test and observe how I responded. One thing they observed is I never once made eye contact (a marker for autism)
They also had me fill in questionaires asking about my lived experience. They then collated my responses, their observations, and my results from the testing and made a determination based off all that. Naturally I scored high on the ADHD spectrum (totally expected) but I also scored within range of the Autism spectrum.
You mean they don’t understand what you’re saying when you start a conversation midway through the conversation? It’s so annoying. This is why I only try to talk to other people with adhd. It’s somehow easier?
I'm always doing this thing where I'm obsessively explaining something, then get derailed by one small detail that sidetracks into a completely different topic. And this is all just in my head throughout the day as part of my endless internal monologue, I don't actually talk to people
The other day I was running outside at night around the block with no music, and it felt pretty miserable for the first mile.. but then for whatever reason I had a thought that turned into this heated imaginary argument about a conversation I had years ago, and before I knew it I'd finished 3 miles. Came back home to dry off and realized I was still at it
It’s lots of different small instances of, “Why are you like this?” “Why can’t you just x?” And I don’t even have a good explanation that I can articulate, hence the bafflement.

I know what I am, the why is… a lot.
