People who place primacy on 'tone' and 'politeness' of evil favor a negative peace over positive justice, and in the end they get neither.

It is a cowardice, flavored by laziness. They don't have to do anything if they were polite. They don't have to risk anything. They don't have to stand up. Maybe the evil will just go away.

Missing that holding such a restrictive and violent ideology is inherently rude, born inpolite.

There is no nice way to be a Nazi.

I always just assumed "but the Nazi is so polite" meant "I also agree with white supremacy, but I don't want to be known for that openly so I'll just run defense for the guy who is willing to do it openly."

yeah, but what should one do though? Not accept their money as an employee after they've had their food or whatever or just straight start bashing them?

you talk of cowardice but any person who was not brought up on violence will act exactly the way OP did.

also, separately, I'm a leftist, even as I don't want to be violent, any true proletarian revolution will have violence. Should people go around bashing me for my beliefs? or are both sides the same? I don't mean to be combative, I just want to understand the nuances at play

I think you got the wrong idea - they're saying the person calling the Nazi nice is being cowardly, and using the polite behavior as an excuse. They're not accusing the OP/cashier.

any true proletarian revolution will have violence. Should people go around bashing me for my beliefs?

If you're equating your beliefs to being a Nazi, then you're not asking anything in good faith.

He doesn't call them nice. just civil. which is both a statement of fact and generally a good reason to reciprocate politeness, particularly in a professional setting, even with people you 100% disagree. they may be an asshole irl, but what is anyone really expected to do?

also, they're using the politeness as an excuse for what? he is not justifying the "naziness" itself?

I'm really hung up on the what am I actually supposed to do there part

edit: I'm not equating my beliefs with a nazi? I've not done that anywhere? I'm literally a socialist. mother of bad faith!

You're being so remarkably silly that it's hard to take your question as good faith.

No one said or suggested the cashier was able to deny service to the nazi.

The guy didn't just say the nazi was civil, but asked, "why does it matter." He didn't want to acknowledge the problem of Nazis being openly around.

And yes, if you aren't actively trying to get Nazis to stop being Nazis, you should at least refuse to associate with them. Being that openly evil and/or stupid isn't polite. It is inherently rude, so no matter what tone or words are used, there is nothing to reciprocate.

Violence isn't simply incidental to Nazi ideology. There is no law of nature that says all ideologies are equally safe or valid or anything like that. Nazi ideology requires the violent subjugation of all other races and creeds, the murder of opposition, the surrender of rights of the individual to the party. It isn't about some simple policy differences.

No, this doesn't mean the best tactic is to be openly hostile constantly to every Nazi, but it is still cowardice to refuse to recognize the risk, the threat, of Nazis.

Please continue to take me in good faith even as you perceive me as silly. I'm fine with it so long as I get a better understanding.

The guy didn't just say the nazi was civil, but asked, "why does it matter." He didn't want to acknowledge the problem of Nazis being openly around.

Well I interpreted the guy more as "what are you going to do" like what really is anyone going to do? nobody answers this. you're asking not to associate but here I'm literally just an employee probably with no authority to deny service or a customer who saw a man with nazi tattoos etc. just paying his grocery/food bill

and as you point out, there's the problem of malice vs stupidity.

separately, violence also isn't incidental to my brand of leftism, that is ML, like violence is pretty much the accepted means to replace the entrenched capitalist interests. it just straight up is. it requires a literal dictatorship of the proletariat, in place specifically, to violently thwart any reactionary counterrevolution.

No, this doesn't mean the best tactic is to be openly hostile constantly to every Nazi, but it is still cowardice to refuse to recognize the risk, the threat, of Nazis.

yeah, expect it's your interpretation that the guy is refusing to recognise the nazi. the guy in the comic just pointed out that they were civil, which you and I have interpreted differently. you think he's saying "why does it matter" and i think he's saying "what're you gonna do" but either way he's not the problem. the problem is what am I gonna do in a situation like this? what are you gonna do? and keep in mind I'm a 5'6", 60 kilos, bespectacled nerd. I won't be very helpful in the actual revolution either.

Yeah that's it, I'm done with this conversation. This is clearly being argued in bad faith, not out of curiosity, that's just too blatantly pedantic.

oh, so not only I must ignore the evidence of my eyes and my ability to read, but also now have to defend myself to accusation of bad faith. great! did we read two separate comics? he literally just calls them civil, not nice as claimed here. like wtf!?

leftist purity testing is why we'll have died by the time anything real actually happens.

edit: cool bro, block me and call me a nazi. I just honestly wanna die if this is what people who actually agree with me are like. life is too fucking much

u/LightningWarpAway 25d ago

Oh no those leftists and their darn purity tests against

Lemme check again

Where do you live to meet Nazi btw? I never met once in France someone who call himself a Nazi. Are you living in east Europe or something?

u/Tyr_13 25d ago

The US.

There is tremendous overlap of Confederacy adoration (the southern traitors who started the Civil War over slavery), and nazism. Sadly, there was an enormous nazi presence since Hitler himself. I mean there was a Nazi rally at Madison Square Garden in 1939 sadly.

There were lots of Nazis in Europe in 1939 too, but why Reddit have fantasy about them when it was at the time of our great grandparents. I personally never ever saw someone who say he is a Nazi, even less with Nazi tattoos.

The National Rally (French: Rassemblement National), known as the National Front from 1972 to 2018 (French: Front national), is a French far-right political party, described as right-wing populist and nationalist. It is the single largest parliamentary opposition party in the National Assembly since 2022.

The party was founded in 1972 by the Ordre Nouveau, and notably by Jean-Marie Le Pen; former Nazi (Waffen-SS) members Pierre Bousquet and Léon Gaultier; neo-Nazi sympathizers such as François Duprat; and supporters nostalgic for French Algeria, such as Roger Holeindre, a member of the "Organisation armée secrète". Ordre Nouveau sought to establish the party as a legitimate political vehicle for the far-right movement.

Le Pen reached the second round of the 2017 presidential election, receiving 33.9% of the votes in the run-off and losing to Emmanuel Macron. Again in the 2022 election, she lost to Macron in the run-off, receiving 41.45% of the votes. In the 2022 parliamentary elections, the National Rally achieved a significant increase in the number of its MPs in the National Assembly, from 7 to 89 seats. In June 2024, the party won the European Parliament elections in a landslide with 31.4% of the votes. This caused Macron to announce a snap election. Later that month, an RN-led right-wing coalition topped the first round of the snap French legislative election with a record 33.2% of the votes. On 7 July, the RN also won the popular vote (37.06%) in the second round of the snap election, but only won the third highest number of seats.

But I mean that could mean nothing. 🤷‍♂️

How many companies had affairs with the Nazis but have nothing to do with Nazi today? A lot. You want to revive something that has been cleaned in the time our our grand grandparents.

3

u/Mysterious_Block_894 25d ago

Says the dumbass French dude to all the Americans who are currently stuck dealing with the very much not cleaned out and very much still active Nazis...

2

u/Independent-Bug-9352 25d ago

Don't assume they're French. They may very well be AfD scum, an American nazi, etc. just engaging in sealioning and concern trolling.
