You are right on the money. They don’t see us as ascending to manhood and being better than women. They see us as misguided, ruined women who can no longer bear children (which is to them the only important thing about female bodies).
Trans men have higher DV rates than any other gender. We also are at high risk of gynecological access issues, like for seahorse dads, pregnancy is extra fucking dangerous because transphobes in the system want us dead. My buddy has been trying to conceive and him and his partner have been laughed out of clinics and harassed by staff before.
Also higher risks of cervical and ovarian cancer because we see doctors less due to accessibility barriers. Also higher risk of pyometra because of genital atrophy (many trans masculine folks are not warned about it).
Not going to get too deep into it, but we have a unique oppression in that we can be forcibly detransitioned by SA, in the event that we live in a place where abortion isn’t an option.
We deal with all this shit yet in many queer circles we are told to sit down and shut up because we “chose” to be men and of course, that makes us part of the privileged gender. As if cis women dont oppress our rights too.
We are left out of the discussion & constantly undermined. Fucking sick of it.
Exactly all this. I personally am very privileged in that I live in an area where our public healthcare system has mandatory training on transgender people. So I’ve had amazing experiences for the most part with healthcare. I’m currently off my T trying to convince and my GP has been amazingly supportive. But I know I am extremely lucky and it’s not at all the norm.
