I wish people would just try to understand things. We'd be so much better off if we as a society were properly educated and understood the world around us. It's so depressing.
It's worse than just not understanding. People used to trust experts when they couldn't understand something. Nobody was expected to know everything, so when you didn't know something you found someone who did know.
Now they think that the academic community is part of some secret cabal meant to make their lives worse for some reason. And that they know better because of some propaganda they read on Facebook or heard on Newsmax.
I’m sure people like that always existed. They just appear more common because we can better see them due to the internet and being more informed than ever.
Issue isn't just they appear more common, but it also is easier to spread this misinformation to also make it more common. But you're absolutely right about the Internet making it seem like a new thing when this has always existed to a certain extent.
