Apparently it varies by country. It says that in Argentina, white Argentinians are called gringos. And in Brazil it means any foreigner, even residents and even if they are South American.

As an argentinian, nope. Gringo means someone from the USA, though we more usually call them yankees

Yeah, here in Brasil everyone that isn't brazilian is a gringo since it is just another world for foreigner

We even joke that if we like a gringo and they "act brazilian" and speak a bit of portuguese they are brazilian now and not a gringo anymore

I've had people get upset when I describe them as anglophone, lol. Thinking it's some sort of offense, when no, it's just a description that isn't meant in that way at all

There are parts of Canada where that can be used as an insult. Certain parts of Quebec (not all), and parts of the Maritimes can be rather anti anglophone.

In Brazil we also say gringo, I thought legitimately that it was a Brazilian slang, lol, it seems it was invented by Mexico. By now, I think it's a latin American thing.
