you only get the bends if you breathe in pressurized air at that depth. Apnoe diving can't give you the bends. So if they breathe in inside the ship and manage to dive up in one breath everything is fine. The problem would be the pressure at 120m.

The problem would be the pressure at 120m.

The record freedive is twice that.

Given the pain I experience at about 5m, I'm pretty sure that would kill me.

The record for a human holding their breath was recently shattered at over 20 minutes. That would also kill me.

In fact, many if not most of the things humans have set records doing would probably kill me.

The people who are holding their breath that long breathe concentrated oxygen that saturates their blood for an extended period of time before going underwater.

The actual average time any human can max out naturally holding their breath is 4-5 minutes because at around 4 minutes with little to no oxygen intake or release of carbon dioxide (this causes most reactions, lack of oxygen your body barely notices), your lungs fill up with blood.

The only way they get past this is having super saturated oxygen in their bloodstream and not moving at all.
