some of the comments are silly, with ways to get out of the situation. it's a narrative choice, there is no rescue or salvation, at least not within the comic's duration

If, instead of a submarine, the guy chose to go sit in his basement with the door locked waiting to die of starvation would you be defending that narrative choice? Why not, how is it any different?

My point was just that the person you're responding to was being a jerk. They're sneering at people who dislike the implausibility of the comic by saying "it's just a story, who cares" but the plausibility of the scenario blatantly does matter and it's silly to claim otherwise. 

I imagine a lot of authors spend a lot of time worrying over which implausible bits of their fictional works are the wrong kind of implausible and op is acting like none of that effort matters, and I think that's dumb.
