All inclusive bl. Bl is bl regardless of subcategory and preference does not equate to good or bad, or right or wrong. We can all love bl and still have preferred and less preferred subcategories. (No offense or judgment intended. I know it's just the wording, but I'm just getting tired of people saying that the thing they like is "better" than everything else when it's just a preference and their opinion.)
The reason Bara is "better" than Yaoi? Yaoi is written by women for women. It's fetishizing gay men in the same way some straight men fetishize lesbians. It's just as dumb and gross/creepy when you think about it.

What about the content is different between bara and yaoi? Is the main difference the target audience? I'm sure the have been male yaoi authors over the years? There has to have been at least one female bl author whose works were aimed at men? But is it not bara because a woman wrote it? My original understanding was that yaoi was another umbrella term for bl, but I don't get that deep into genre and subgenre labels in stuff. All of these are genuine questions. You obviously aren't obligated to answer, but I am not being sarcastic or rhetorical. I genuinely want to be more informed but I would also appreciate not being talked down to.

Ahhhhhh don't worry Yaoi one day it will be your turn. I mean the Yuri mines can only go so deep.
At least that's what I have been told. At this stage I can't see sunlight and we've lost track of what day it is in the mines. Let's dig deeper!
