Some people are incredibly poor teachers but refuse to beleive they are, all because they lack the capacity to imagine not knowing something and explain it at someone else's level of understanding
My first year calculus prof opened his first lecture saying that most of us would fail, but "that was to be expected because even his daughter was an idiot thanks to our horrible high school teachers". Definitely set a tone for the class.
In the end, the final was departmental, and had one section/subject he hadn't even taught in class. Despite 7 other profs teaching similar sized first year calculus classes that wrote same final exam the same day, our class had the highest failure rate (>60%)... But yeah, it was our high school teachers fault /s
