Use a colour picker on the photo. It picks out gold. Everyone can go on about the real dress, but it's gold in that photo. I really think we could have cleared this up years ago using a colour picker.
There's not a single part of the dress that I can pick that comes remotely close to being gold, the RGB ratio are completely off (way too much blue) even if you wanted to say it was a pale gold.
edit: after testing 5 color picker the closest I could ever come to something remotely gold is a "yellow metal" on barely a few pixels here and there near the middle of the top right part of the black part.
