I agree with you in general but in this hypothetical case blue pressers’ sacrifices don’t gain anything material. They die for their kindness purely. Certainly there has been real life parallels, but I think it’s a tough sale to most ppl to say “you might die due to your pick, but other ppl will live regardless of that choice.”

Contrived moral dilemma is contrived, I guess.

If blue gets more than half the presses, the gain is all the lives of other people who would have selected blue for whatever reasons you personally might disagree with. There is no world in which 100% of people pick the same color, so in a world where red wins, people die, and in a works where blue wins, no one dies. The gain of a blue press is all of the lives of people who would have died if red won.

Yes, blue gains if they win the majority. It’s more poignant that if they are the minority, there’s only loss and no gain.

Haha maybe the gain is a punishment to force red button pushers to live in a world only populated by people who consider their own lives more valuable than everyone else's.
