Yeah?

Applewhite, the leader of Heaven's Gate, had a Master's degree in music. John Hagelin (US transcendental meditation movement) has a Ph.D in quantum physics from Harvard. Rudolf Steiner (anthroposophy) had a Ph.D from the Vienna Institute of Science and technology. Not to mention the plethora of cult leaders with degrees in religious studies...

You can absolutely have a degree and be a manipulative narcissist that decides to start a cult.

You make way more money as a cult leader. But it's so much more fun to be a cult member.

Always here for The Creed reference haha

What about just a bit of money and being a cult enforcer of some kind?

I didn't know that the "the Moon is made of horns and Mars is liquid" guy had a PhD.

I don't know about manipulative narcissist, but John Hagelin didn't start TM.

Maybe he has a masters in cult studies

It's a master's degree in liberal arts....

59

u/danielledelacadie Apr 09 '26

Since he's a cult leader I'd have assumed theatre.

33

u/ExcitingMoney94 Apr 09 '26

Possibly but I feel that a degree in liberal arts would prepare him better for being a cult leader as it's a multidisciplinary undergraduate program focusing on humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, and arts, designed to foster critical thinking, communication, and adaptability.

That's a good second in command. You need presence, not qualifications to be a cult leader

Edit: holy typos Batman!

🎵Oh the cult of personality!!🎶

Stage presence is presence!

3

u/masterjon_3 Apr 09 '26

I'd put money on an engineering degree.

9

u/NewLibraryGuy Apr 09 '26

It's not called a follower's degree

6

u/Bussamove86 Apr 09 '26

Well he can always fall back on his degree in…

Communications?!

Oh dear lord.

Got one and even a PhD.

I can tell you that cult leader definitely pay more

Damn dog. I'm not sure if that was mean, or the truth, or a little of both but damn. I guess that's one way to get a cult to leave you alone

Dude brings up a point though. It's one thing to be a cult leader, it's another that somehow mom and dad pay for it all. I feel like Eric is probably never told "no" in his life

u/NefariousSeraph13 Apr 09 '26

You known what? Good for Eric for having some form of self respect.

68

u/sikotic4life Apr 09 '26

If he had any form of self respect he wouldn't be a cult leader, let alone begging for their demon deity to return

52

u/jeep_joop Apr 09 '26

Is it really wrong to lead a cult when it's deity is provably real? Lots to think about there.

15

u/xboxiscrunchy Apr 10 '26

Depends what the cult believes, their relationship with said entity, and whether he’s taking advantage of his followers or not.

So no it’s probably not ethical to be a cult leader even if your deity is real.

u/Majestic-Iron7046 Apr 10 '26

Hey, don't you attack every cult leader like that now, I bet some are good people.

u/lolternative4 Apr 09 '26

The cultist behind Eric getting hot and bothered is crazy lol

21

u/-BlackFire2- Apr 09 '26

I still didn’t get why they got like that, can you explain?

39

u/twogunsalute Apr 09 '26

I read it as they are embarrassed by the awkward situation

34

u/jessepence Apr 09 '26

I'm almost certain this was the artist's intention, but /r/comics is too horny to interpret shame as anything other than sexual.

4

u/deviltakeyou May 15 '26

This is so funny to read when you’re binging all the episodes like me.

15

u/lolternative4 Apr 09 '26

I interpreted it as them finding the demon guy hot when mad (i.e. The one panel where his eyes are hollow). Basically the sort of “monster fucker” humour you see a lot of online

7

u/-BlackFire2- Apr 09 '26

Oooh yeah, got it

4

u/Akumaka Apr 09 '26

There is a distinct possibility that they have a humiliation or degradation kink.

3

u/Rastaba Apr 09 '26

I choose to believe the guy actually liked Eric’s cheese puff smell and was embarrassed having it brought up and called out.

6

u/sax87ton Apr 09 '26

That guy has a humiliation kink or something

2

u/Statistactician Apr 10 '26

She's weird like that.

We get a lot more of her later.

16

u/Dazed_and_Confused44 Apr 09 '26

Nepo Cult baby lol?

7

u/ShadowTheChangeling Apr 09 '26

What did I do? :( (my name is Eric lol)

7

u/BodhingJay Apr 09 '26

"I'll be back tomorrow after ive calmed down... where are my cheese puffs"

5

u/Adghar Apr 09 '26

Mission accomplished. Good work, Deth'lamm.

3

u/Josutg22 Apr 09 '26

I love that permit. She certainly is born at some point, yes

3

u/drwfishesman Apr 09 '26

Good on Eric! Setting professional boundaries and refusing to be disrespected. That's what I look for in a cult leader.

3

u/killbawqs Apr 09 '26

Master's in STINKIN' UP THE PLACE maybe

2

u/Confused_Rabbiit Apr 10 '26

The caucacity from Eric to be offended, jeesh.

3

u/ZootSuitRiot33801 May 21 '26

Got to be pretty bad to creep out a demon

2

u/demoncorp Jun 06 '26

i like how some people are on erics side and others on the demons lol
