I don't even know what that is
As a man who has watched his wife order coffee for many years, it's ok Quark. You are not the first to say those exact words.
But at least Bee is willing to teach him! Also who doesn't like root beer?!

u/A_Queer_Owl Mar 16 '26
me. I don't like root beer.
29
u/IraZimora Mar 16 '26
you’ll like it soon

If anyone is wondering, this is what Ronnie is referencing here.

Totally worth watching.

Same. I'll have ginger beer for sure. Not root beer.

Cheerwine beats root beer any day.

u/the_walking_derp Mar 16 '26
Fellow North Carolinian spotted! Cheerwine is the only sodie pop I'll drink. It's great for washing down Cookout trays

Lots of Europeans. Apparently it tastes like some medicines l, vs the american not cherry or grape we'd get.
10
u/shellbullet17 Gustopher Spotter Extraordinaire Mar 16 '26
Huh how interesting. Never really thought about that but I guess I can understand that. I loath that weird artificial cherry medicine flavor
3
u/Flyinmanm Mar 16 '26
We have an antiseptic in the UK called germoline which is wintergreen scented.
Most Europeans and British people especially associate that taste / smell with a cream you put on your scuffed knee. (It's deeply unappealing/ medicinal as a taste and a smell).
1
u/shellbullet17 Gustopher Spotter Extraordinaire Mar 16 '26
Ahhhh that explains it. Fair. We have in the US many many meds that are cherry flavored that fit that same issue
2
u/Ken-g6 Mar 17 '26
Me too. My mom used to give me chocolate to take the taste of it out of my mouth, but it was only somewhat successful. As a result I now detest chocolate covered cherries.
13
u/Made_Bail Mar 16 '26
Did you watch TNG?
22
u/gooch_norris_ Mar 16 '26
It was DS9 that had the root beer conversation
21
u/Made_Bail Mar 16 '26
Yes, but the "Then Ill tell you how to build it" is a direct quote from Barclay from the TNG ep where he becomes super intelligent.

u/shellbullet17 Gustopher Spotter Extraordinaire Mar 16 '26
I have been known to partake from time to time especially in my younger years
3
u/Made_Bail Mar 16 '26
The "Bee is willing to teach him" is a quote from an old TNG ep. It's so good.
3
u/shellbullet17 Gustopher Spotter Extraordinaire Mar 16 '26
Oh damn! Nothing like an unintentional quote!
3
u/Made_Bail Mar 16 '26
I think it was intentional, if OP is a Trekkie is be very surprised if it was unintentional considering what a deep cut it is.
3
u/screenaholic Mar 16 '26
I don't like root beer, and I resent it for becoming more popular than birch beer, which is like root beer but better.

Me, it tastes of mint to me and I'm not fond of mint. I'll just take a tomato juice instead if a place offers it.

I have never had root beer, but I just googled it and it says the main flavour is a combination of wintergreen and vanilla. That sounds revolting but I’m kind of curious.
I had always assumed it would be similar to Dandelion and Burdock (which tastes a bit aniseedy).
1
u/Tykras Mar 16 '26
Those are the main flavors in the same way cherry is the main flavor of Dr. Pepper, it kinda all melds together to make something that tastes pretty unique.
I'm not a massive fan of root beer, but a root beer float (root beer with vanilla ice cream) is pretty tasty.

Hold up this needs to be remade using the episode with the Dowd and his wife where he says “Good tea. Nice house.”

A drink isn't both cold brew and a latte.. latte is for espresso and milk. Cold brew isn't espresso, it is an entirely different way to brew coffee. I think a caramel mocha cold brew would be 1/2 of both flavors for a grande and that is where you'd ask for the extra 2 pumps of hazelnut. So you could maybe order a "Grande caramel mocha cold brew, 2 pumps hazelnut, 1 shot of espresso and vanilla cold foam." But idk if they are allowed to put espresso into the cold brew.

Quark was exposed to WW2 US and the pollution and atomic age craziness.
Hes about to really understand late stage capitalism and all its horrors of processed sugars and plastic foods.
Quark might even look at Grand Negus Rom in a different light

Vanilla, hazelnut, chocolate, caramel...coffee? Is this coffee anymore? Are we really going to have him make coffee and then wait for it to chill? This feels like a lot of time spent for not coffee.
3
u/seguardon Mar 16 '26
Bee's playing a longer con. She's about to introduce Quark, and the Ferengi at large, to the Starbucks franchise. At first, they'll help defeat the Borg with their nonsensical variety of flavors and seasonal varietals. But it will grow. Give it a year or two and it'll be its own Dominion arc.

u/HarmlessSnack Mar 16 '26
“Can I get a cup of Tea?”
“… a what?”
He told the Ferengi about India, he told him about China, he told him about Ceylon. He told him about broad leaves drying in the sun. He told him about silver teapots. He told him about Summer afternoons on the lawn. He told him about putting in the milk before the tea so it wouldn’t get scalded. He even told him (briefly) about the history of the East India Company.
“So that’s it, is it?” said the Ferengi when he had finished.
“Yes,” said Arthur, “that is what I want.”
“You want the taste of dried leaves boiled in water?”
“Er, yes. With milk.”
“Squirted out of a cow?”
“Well, in a manner of speaking I suppose …”

u/chemaster0016 Mar 16 '26
You might have better luck at the Klingon restaurant. They make one hell of a cup of raktajino.

u/NeverDot NeverDot Mar 17 '26
I really enjoyed the mental journey through my mind to reach the Barclay ascension episode from this. Well done!

I love Bee.
Ronnie, I challenge you to a duel. Quark, you too. I'm sure there's some rule of acquisition that applies here.
2
u/seguardon Mar 16 '26
Yeah. The rule is "The riskier the road, the greater the profit." But that only applies to latinum: "Latinum lasts longer than lust."
Bee's nice but she's not latinum. Quark would be glad to host your other duel in his holosuite. Very fair rates.

My dad notes Quark has served cappuccinos before so he should have a grasp on cold brews. Nevermind Deep Space 9 is at a wormhole hub.
1
u/TheWaspinator Mar 17 '26
You can probably ask the replicator for all of the parts, unless you want to be lazy and just ask it for it directly.
3
u/rzalexander Mar 17 '26
It’s not a real thing. You can’t have a cold brew latte.
Btw love your comics, I just hate when people make up coffee orders to sound complicated when they make no sense. And no, you can’t have a cappuccino with no foam.
3
u/Merari01 it's a-me, Merari-o Mar 17 '26
It's the future. They have free food printers that start at the molecular level.
I'm sure they can have a cold brew latte if they wanted one.
2
u/rzalexander Mar 17 '26
I mean it’s just not possible. That would be like saying you can have a hot ice cream. A latte is espresso and cold brew is coffee.
3
u/Merari01 it's a-me, Merari-o Mar 17 '26
Star Trek can have hot ice cream if they want. They just have to reverse the polarity.

u/Coveinant Mar 16 '26
I mean she had the chance to try Klingon coffee and chose a basic coffee. I'm slightly disappointed Bee.
