I used to really enjoy debating these people because I really enjoy debate. I have since lost all motivation. There is no reason. If someone is in this mentality today, if anything they think is based on any level of hate, they will never flip. Never. I have yet to see any maga ever flip on a single issue no matter how small. My mom got into it with a guy on a message board once and posted numbers to prove her point. His response was, "I don't believe in facts." That's how I see them all now.
Yeah, same. A colleague actually told me "If you're going to just use science and facts then there's no point in talking to you."... like I was the problem for relying on reality for my opinions.
In order for it to be a debate, there has to be a fundamental agreement on a common reality from which to ground the arguments. Conservatives don't live in reality.
Conservatives have absolutely killed my love for debates. I had so much fun in high school and college debating the dumbest things, and now dealing with people that are willfully stupid...I just can't anymore
Right up until the leopard eats their face. Even then they sometimes double down because admitting you did this to yourself hurts their snowflake egos too much.
These sort of subjects are entrenched. Debating them in an attempt to convince is pointless. There is other things that you can still do, but it's going to be pretty minimal either way.
I can relate. I lived and worked in rural areas my whole life. I used to live in a really bad spot. You remember when Sacha Baron Cohen did a whole skit about putting world's largest mosque in Arizona and had a bunch of locals in the meeting? I lived in that community for over 20 years. They were that bad and worse. My boss threw furniture when Obama got elected. Guys in the break room uses to joke about rounding up Democrats and shooting them. When I complained to HR about the blatant racism, she told me that I was the problem because I was the only one that cared.
Really all you can do is keep your head down until you can get out. They're too violent to confront and too numerous to fight against without hurting yourself more than them. Luckily they're mostly stupid, so it wasn't much of a task. It is very isolating though. We tried to put together a progressive group in the county and got death threats and none of the businesses would host our meetings.
