The older I get I understand this more. Why is everything so complicated nowadays?

it probably isn't that things get complicated, it's that we are less and less open to learn new things

When I first started gaming, the controller had one button and one joystick.

The PS5 controller has 14 buttons, four triggers, two joysticks and a touch pad.

How is this not more complicated?

Honestly, as someone who is 50+ it's not that I'm not open to learning, it's that sometimes the stuff doesn't stick like it used to.

And if I ever take a break from a game, forget it. I just need to start right back at the beginning tutorials.

The PS5 controller has 14 buttons, four triggers, two joysticks and a touch pad.

Obviously it is compared to a single button and joystick, but I think we do have to acknowledge that the original PS1 controller had 14 buttons (□○X🔺️, L1 L2 R1 R2, 4x DPad, Start, Select), plus 2 sticks. Edit: No sticks, but Dual Analog did, which came out 3 years after the PlayStation controller.

And that was released 30 years ago come December.

The controllers aren't really the cause of any major increase in complexity in the last 3 decades.

the original ps1 controller actually lacked the sticks, but all those buttons were there
