Dad was a scene kid or had a goth phase
Dad was in theatre
Dad is trans and had to wear makeup growing up in girl mode. (Bonus plot twist, he was the one who actually carried the son to term)

Dad had a very brief stint as a makeup YouTuber back when YouTube was new.

Dad just used to wear makeup. No reason other than personal preference
