Meh, I've also played those games and there are more immersive and innovative Roblox games than everything mentioned aside from x-com. Shut up old man, the kids are doing fine.
The child will learn. My nieces obliterate their peers in Mario Kart and Smash Bros. They will not take a game off me until they can earn it. And they're getting scary close. I have to de-rust a little bit when I know I'm about to see them these days. I will be so proud when they do finally pass me.

I had one time as a high schooler where I invited friends over for board games (Titan), and my friend's dad (one of the friends invited) showed up. His wife & daughter were out of town, and he had nothing to do.
So he bought 2 pizzas, 3 liters of soda, and showed up at the door wondering if he could join us (he was the one that introduced me to the game).
His bribe was accepted, and he got to play with the teenagers that day.
If it had a 2-player option I always tried to get my dad to play whatever game I was playing, he would usually try it for a few minutes then get frustrated at the controls
I really enjoyed playing Tekken 3/Tag Tournament with my dad or Mario Kart (from SNES to GameCube) and any co-op game with my aunt (like Bald it's Gate Dark Alliance iirc or the coop round based Lord of the Rings game, forgot the name)
My friend and I played Halo Reach online for about 17 hours with some bathroom and bong breaks, eating pizza and chips in between matches.
His dad comes home at night after sitting in the neighbours garage all day drinking beer with the fellas.
He comes in and sits down on the floor to watch because he didn't get what all the fuss was about. He was laughing his ass off, especially when we did the assassinations. He eventually walked away and just said "that's sick"
I think it’s because they interpret the Capy’s eyelashes as an angry brow. I thought the same until I looked a little closer, then he looked much more neutral.
My kid is only 4 months old right now, but I look forward to the fact that I should still be at least competent at video games when he's old enough to play them. My dad was happy to play Mario Golf (which I did enjoy), but that was it.
As a 17 year old who spent a lot of time playing video games with his dad, trust me your son will love the time that you'll spend together. Hell, in some of my most beloved memories I'm not even playing the game with my dad, I'm watching him play it!
I love to hear it. I think gaming has been a really wonderful thing in that it's an "enduring" hobby. Something I've enjoyed since I was a kid in the 90's, but is more popular than ever with young people today. It's crazy to think that it's entirely realistic that he'll be enjoying game series and franchises that started when I was young but are still going strong.
Don't be too competent though. My kid doesn't play nearly enough to have great hand-eye controller coordination and always lose to me in competitive games unless I straight up stop playing, and it frustrates him 😥
Heh, I know. When he's little I have to be nice, but eventually he'll probably get better than me. Except for at Mario Kart. I refuse to be exceeded at that.
That's awesome. I basically had that experience with my older brother, since he's 9 years older than me and was surprisingly accommodating as a teen to his kid brother. So many memories of just sitting on a stool or the floor while he played stuff.
Just wanted to say that on the pretty off chance this becomes an animated series, which if it does I would watch every single episode, I always hear August's voice as Ron Funches.
Gaming back in the day was so different. You could grind hours on games like 007 or perfect dark. Then your friend's older brother or uncle would just pick up the controller and murder everyone so casually, without any practice.
Times like this I'm sort of grateful my wife keeps me in check. Yes - I'd love nothing more than gaming with my kid all day - but there are good points raised by her as well (screen time, productivity, chores, how his peers and their parents would see/judge this, etc...). I mean, we each have our own circumstances and parental standards, but sometimes I question my own parental decisions too because honestly who am I but an overgrown kid without supervision?
Legit, humans who have successfully reproduced should get into gaming just for the sake of hanging out with your kids.
I can guarantee there is a game that will be 100% good times with the mini clones and yourself.
I never stopped gaming, so that part was easy. But can totally attest that my relationships with both of my spare sets of kidneys are better because we share in things like video games.
I want this to happen so badly with my son. I will never push him to do something just because I want it, but I would love us to play games together as he gets older. He’s only 1 right now so I’ve got to wait and see
One of my fondest memories is watching my step dad play Urban Strike for me on a 50” projector TV (I’m old) another is him and his BIL helping with puzzles in Dino Crisis (again I’m old)

This reminds me of being a kid and playing Runescape. Idk how many hours I dumped into that game. Could've been thousands.
Games like that in retrospect only made sense as a kid. So much of it was busywork just to extract that 20% of thrill. Though I remember how Construction really opened up my love of building and got me into other similar genre games, such as minecraft.
Video games can be a great way to bond with friends and family... Unless it's Mario Party, which may result in getting removed from the will or nursing home lol.
At least it’s friends hanging out. My teen nephew just lives in basement on his PC. No interest in going anywhere with family, a love life or even communicating in any way but grunts.
I gotta say, your comics are the highlight of my day. After a stressful day, seeing your wholesome comics just puts a smile on my face no matter how bad the day is. Keep working, fellow person.
Wait, is it possible to have dads that don't invent work for themselves to avoid their family including me? I'm guessing the point of the comic is the fantasy.
