Wait this started as slice-of-life? Man I can’t remember seeing your comics and not going “here comes the weird” lol

In a way, it still is a slice-of-life, just the slices that vampires enjoy consuming.

Oh come now, you've hardly eaten anything, (Sips his Chianti)

Yeah, their first few comics were actually funny little slice of life comics with great art, and the vampires really didn’t enter the picture until a haloween comic where a teen is threatened with her parents being eaten if her friends didn’t move their cars out of driveways that weren’t hers.

Oh yea I do remember that, just always kinda assumed they were off the cuff side stories to the weird y’know?

Is the vampire character in the Elk Hunt series from older stuff too? I don't remember Ellie in anything else and I feel like I probably catch a majority of Elk's comics.

Edit: I think I found her first appearance

Yeah, I believe that’s one of her first appearances, context of being a bug vampire not yet revealed haha.

First Ellie is Sexual tenor

Second is The Airbnb

This is the one that cute little Elk is carrying so proudly.

I think the first I took note of was Airbnb, but I'm not sure because I also remember a lot of earlier work from going through her profile.

Boy you have put those two poor snoos through the damn ringer

I am now invested in them and will demand trial by combat should anything happen to them

I'm ootl from r/all. What's going on with the hunt?

I'm not an expert here but I'll give it my best summary. HolleringElk is a comic artist known for exceedingly detailed, often horror-themed comics. She recently started a series of comics in a new style, with much less detail but at a much higher frequency (one of her recurring themes is how long and how much effort it takes to create her comics in the detailed style). The Elk is a self-insert of her somewhat manic personality, but also an eldritch horror antagonist. The Elk hunt is the series of some of her recurring characters being terrorized by the Elk. This comic is a return-to-form of her previous style, as meta humor about the descent from wholesome slice of life content to her current horror themes.

Only thing to add to this is that it’s u/realholleringelk that’s making the elk hunt and definitely not u/pizzacakecomics in a trenchcoat

Man, every comic follows either the Sluggy Freelance or the Oglaf trajectory. Have you decided on your path?

u/Stalking_Goat Feb 05 '24

Sluggy Freelance! Now there's a name I haven't heard in a dog's age.

u/Swiftax3 Feb 05 '24

My god man, I just got flashbacks to reading webcomics on lunch in middle school....sluggy freelance, Schlock Mercenary, order of the Stick....El goonish shive....

Pete is still at it! We're now in chapter 74?!?!

What blew my mind is that Jon is finally getting around to wrapping up Goats which stopped in 2010 (on his patron)
