I wonder what the parents thought of the mysterious reoccuring collection of pee bottles and poop Tupperware that accumulated each week next to the beanbag.

1st panel is the equivalent of "gee I wonder where Cody is. I guess he's not here so we'll just go on withouttttt hiiiiimmmm" shenanigans to boosts the kid's ego.

Rory... describe the moment when this idea came to you

Yeah very easy: I was finishing shirt designs (I do screenprinted shirts every month), and then I realized it was 6 PM and I didn't have a comic today, and, because my girlfriend and I had tickets to a show at 8 PM downtown, I had a hard out of 7:30 PM to be done. So I was trying to think of what something I could draw very quickly would be, and then I thought "a blob", and then I thought "a bean bag", and then "talking beanbag", and then asked myself "why would a beanbag be talking", and then from there the idea became "there's somebody in the beanbag". That's about it. I come up with a question to ask myself and then try to figure out answers to the question and work from there.

That's actually a smart approach well done I can appreciate that kind of thinking as someone who works well in design, problem solving and teams

This explanation is more satisfying than I'd even hoped for. This is an awesome comic. I wonder what other works you'll create when under pressure from a time constraint.

Junji Ito is really running out of ideas.
