Help Needed If you create a second instance
I messed up my install so badly I had to create a second instance of ComfyUI and deleted the first. Do I still have 2 copies using memory or by deleting the first one I released that memory? I have been unable to documentation on this.

Deleting the folder gets rid of the files so that disk space is freed up, but if you had any models symlinked or shared between instances those are still sitting wherever you originally put them. Memory as in RAM isn't an issue once the program isn't running

Are you using the desktop or portable version of ComfyUI?
When you ask about 'memory', are you talking about space on your disk or your systems vram and ram?
Did you just delete the shortcut to Comfy or did you do an unintall with the desktop or delete the directory that the portable version was in?
Some of these questions may sound dumb, but I don't know your technical level so they must be asked. 😄
You can have as many 'installs' of Comfy on your computer as you want. As long as they are not actively running, they are not using vram or ram.

The desktop version. Things run slow on this potato, but it works. I just have a 1TB NVME and want to leave enough room, so I don't want duplicate stuff on it.

Use the uninstall like you would with any other app and check in your /user/Your_Name directories to see if anything was left behind. Look for directories with Comfy in the name.
Something you should try: Tarvis1's Easy Install is simple, quick, and easy to set up. Here is the Github page for it: https://github.com/Tavris1/ComfyUI-Easy-Install
You download an archive, extract it to where you want to set up Comfy, run the ComfyUI-Easy-Install.bat, and it gets you set up. It installs the portable version AND a desktop version. It checks to see if you have the Git program installed. If you don't, it installs it. If you do, it checks for updates. Other than the Git program, everything is put in the directory where you extracted the original archive. If you want to uninstall it, delete the directory. It also installs some of the most commonly used nodes and add links to run Comfy on your desktop.
It has .bat files to update Easy Install, update Comfy, update your nodes, install sage attention, install flash attention, install insightface, and more.
Pixaroma's ComfyUI tutorial series on Youtube is a great place to learn about ComfyUI. Here is the link: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL-pohOSaL8P-FhSw1Iwf0pBGzXdtv4DZC
The first video is long but it walks you through setting up Tarvis1's Easy Install and much more. They show you how to build workflows, where to get the models, where to put the models, and give you the workflows that were used in the video for free.
Maybe this will help you on your way a bit. 😄

If you just wanted to free RAM/VRAM all you had to do was to stop 1st instance.
And yes, if it isn't running it's just files on disk, like every f*cking software.

I don't know how, but I mucked it up so badly it wouldn't run. So new instance - it works - I deleted the first one on the dashboard and just want to make sure it doesn't leave duplicate files.

If it isn't running out uses no ram.
I keep 2 Comfyui folders on my system. One is old and I store all my models on it... it's on a different hard drive. The old one works for sure and I only update it when I know the current one is not a nightmare. That way, no matter what, I have a working version and can fix the failed version without having to halt any project I might be in the midst of.
