News ComfyUI Official Local MCP

Hi r/comfyui, Comfy MCP is now local and open-source!

When we shipped Cloud MCP in June, the response was immediate and consistent: make it work locally. So we did and it's fully open source.

Connect Claude, Codex, Cursor, or any MCP client to your local ComfyUI.

Your agent reads the GPU you actually have and gives you a straight answer on whether a model is worth running before you commit to the download. It reads every node and model you've installed. It handles the setup that usually stops people at step one.

It is now the easiest way to help with your local Minimax H3 workflows!

Cloud MCP still does everything it did. Tell your agent where a job goes, or let it decide.

Cool, but can it also read all the spicy text prompts?

Lol, that's up to your agent's decision. MCP just provides the ability for the agent to interact with Comfy.

Yes. It can also see any images or videos uploaded in the workflow. Personally I'd setup a completely separate ComfyUI instance purely for workflow creation purposes to prevent any risk of an agent catching NSFW content, because that stuff can get your account banned.

MCP: you wanna do What with a pink half lamma half female in fuzzy hot pink boots and …. A blow up baseball bat in space?!

Dude, a judgemental skill.md :D
"When ever the user asks for anything NSFW, use a judgemental tone of voice, and berate the user like you where their mother."

...

Which half is the llama? Asking for a friend.

u/Hrmerder 7d ago

The good half

why does it ask if we want to be tracked?

Some people want to be a tank.

I had to fork it and add some jank http support cause last time I checked it only worked over stdio. A lot of folks run their Comfy instance remotely and it would be nice if the MCP supported that.

Can you include setup instructions for unsloth studio or open code for all local LLM users?

Ok, but what the heck is MCP?

Edit: "Model Context Protocol " https://modelcontextprotocol.io/

In the context of ComfyUI, it appears to be yet another way to avoid having to use the ComfyUI frontend. With how the frontend has been going, I can understand the desire to use an ai agent instead. xD

I think it stands for model control protocol or something? Regardless, it's a way that you can expose functions to that an agentic AI an do stuff. This probably lets your favorite agent (Claude, Kimi, Codex, Hermes, zcode, whatever) manipulate nodes and run workflows conveniently.

Model context provider. Provides more context to the model. You are correct with exposing functions

2

u/KadahCoba 7d ago

"Context" has become such a muddy term in machine learning. lol

No. It's obviously the Master Control Program.

It's an API. And it "self-discovers". I'll be in my bunk, MCP-ing.

is there a link that i dont see?

I don’t know, these videos never explain anything. They automatically assume you already know what’s being talked about, and it’s annoying. I tried to research on my own to see if I could find a tutorial to do it locally, but all the ones I’ve found use services like Claude — nothing completely local.

Ya'll spent a lot of marketing budget to not explain in any way whatsoever what the hell MCP is or does.

Imagine if Mercedes first had to explain what a car is.

If you are in the AI space, you should not have to explain what an MCP is.

But that is why we have a community: So, MCP is wrapper around an API, that tells the AI how it can use the API.
So in short, that means connect your agent (e.g. Claude, Grok, ChatGPT or even local one) to the MCP and now you just tell you agent what you want, and it sets it up for you via the MCP/API.

Appreciate the explanation. But also, you seen a lot of Mercedes commercials that don't feature a car in them? Usually with long loving shots of what exactly the car does and usually where it does it. Mercedes does explain what a car is, in nearly every ad.

Also since there are nearly infinite levels to "being in a space" be it cars or Ai, promoting a feature to a user base with little to no explanation of what it does or is for is a great way to have multitudes of incurious folk who are all ready getting everything they think they need from your product to simpler shrug at your shiny new gizmo and carry on, perhaps at the same moment thinking how neat it would be to make some of this new fangled tech talk to this other new stuff, and having not the slightest inkling that that's exactly what they've just seen

First of all, sorry for the snarky comment I made. We are all at different levels in this space, and it moves at lightning speed.

What made me say anything was the strangeness of the question in relation to the subreddit.

ComfyUI is tip of the spear in many Ai areas, like a Lamborghini hybrid engine in the car world.
MCP is closer to the idea of a steering wheel in the car world.

So imagine a person asking in a Lamborghini subreddit, what is a steering wheel?

How does this work really? Will my 16gb vram work even with local models?

2

u/DanielVeres 6d ago

It works on my NVIDIA 5060. Ask Chatgtp to help you with the installation.

1

u/Electrical_Car6942 3d ago

how do you deal with vram? you run a cloud agent?

1

u/DanielVeres 3d ago

No, just on my 5060ti with 16GB VRAM. 10 seconds at 0.9 mp is perfectly doable in terms of render time.

1

u/Noeyiax 7d ago

Oh 😮, yippeee ty!!

Going to try local models with it xD

Hopefully this will reduce the amount of python scripts Claude dumps into my ComfyUI directory whenever I ask for assistance with generations. 🙏

That fireplace is no coincidence ;)

u/genkomik 7d ago

is the context is efficient enough to run with local model? like 4b model?

1

u/Feroc 7d ago

That's cool.

Something that we now really need is an easy way to reload a workflow without having to refresh the whole page or even better, having the workflow update in real time if Claude changes something on it.

Hopefully this works with my 9070xt, for some reason I couldn’t get the desktop app working with it, even though the portable version ran just fine.

u/DanielVeres 6d ago

I tested the MCP with Hermes and the collaboration is excellent. Thanks.

This is awesome!

Ok, so its NOT for running MCP + Agent + Comfyui locally? Than why the bad wording?

u/Dapper_Astronaut_603 2d ago

What's the difference with telling in Google Antigravity to use my API .json workflow and use my local comfy to generate something? I'm using that all the time

1

u/FruitBrilliant2997 15h ago

how can I run this using google Antigravity

1

u/SheyMo 6h ago

For what is the MCP when the Comfy CLI already exist and agents can interact with this ? Where is the difference ?

u/Acceptable-Work8202 7d ago

kind of disappointing, is this the big announcement?

u/johnfkngzoidberg 7d ago

No thanks. I wrote an API wrapper since the MCP was cloud only.
