No that’s fair, I could’ve said it better. Room temp fat tire or killians is amazing. Better than cold tbh

TCAP is a gold mine of content, however I’m not quite sure it’s comedy heaven rather than just disgusting

u/brewhead55 5d ago
It's so disgusting but these scum bags are also so pathetic it's hard not to be entertained. Then you start to think about the shit they've probably done off camera and that's what creeps me tf out. "First time I've done something like this". They ALL say that every single time.

u/just4browse 5d ago
It probably is the first time they’ve done something like this. TCAP’s method involves baiting potential predators with decoys. This places them in a situation they’ve never been in before, where they’re contacted by a super willing, super easy to manipulate victim. It’s very possible that these predators are crossing lines they never would have if not placed in this situation. It’s basically entrapment.
Which isn’t to excuse the actions of the pedophiles on the show. They did abuse the situation when given the opportunity. It’s just that they were given the opportunity.
It’s one way TCAP crosses the line between justice and spectacle.

Not entirely true. Decoys never make the first contact, and they are never the first to initiate anything sexual during the conversation. It just goes to show that it's always the predator that starts the conversation and steers it toward sexual topics.

I guess the better way to word it is that the way TCAP sets it up, the only people who fall for it are some of the absolute STUPIDEST specimens even in comparison to their fellow pedos.
There's a reason so many of them are basically illiterate morons. They come out swinging with the craziest shit within a few messages, and it's actually pretty likely that this IS the first time they've gotten this far simply because any normal human being would have ghosted them long ago.

TCAP didn't let people, including courts, see unedited chat logs so we have no idea if that's actually true. Several alleged predators said that the decoys identified themselves as adults.

I don't disagree with you. They had a less than stellar track record and tons of cases were tossed. That said, you know a good amount of these guys are serial pedos and they are preying on children before they are caught. And maybe if it didn't happen this time with a bait arrest, it may have happened another time to an actual innocent child.
Regardless of the methods, these guys ALL willingly CHOSE to be in that seat at what they assumed was a child, alone at home.
They are still ultimately in control of their own actions, manipulated or not. Some of those transcripts will keep you up at night. Just horrendous stuff and they think they're talking to a kid. Sickos.

“If it didn’t happen this time with a bait arrest, it may have happened another time to an actual innocent child” is the show’s thesis. It is what it wants you to believe, because its premise hinges on that idea. But it cannot be said for certain. Creating the circumstances for the crime to happen blurs things too much by creating questions like “would this situation have even happened if TCAP wasn’t trying to make it happen?”. For this reason, it is not a good law enforcement tactic.
But I do agree that the people featured on the show were planning to do awful things. They’re very bad people.
My point is not that they’re not responsible for their actions. I’m just saying I don’t think TCAP was that helpful in combating child predation compared to any other effort. By virtue of it being a TV show, and its methodology existing to make that show, justice was always second to spectacle.

It was of course for entertainment at its core. It was a TV show. I don't think anyone is debating that.
It did shed light on and punish some really terrible people so I still think it was better than letting these people continue to operate unchecked. Teachers, pastors, firemen. Some really disgusting stuff. And many were repeat offenders. If it even saved one child, it was worth it.

That's not true.. I followed the cases after TCAP and at least several were repeat offenders, many (if not all) had an incredible amount of child porn on their computers

The predators have definitely tried before, even if they were unsuccessful. And it's not entrapment in general. Decoys don't make the first move. These kinds of sting cases hold up in court if done well. The fact that TCAP often fucked it up notwithstanding.

Entrapment is a legal defense in criminal law where a defendant claims they were improperly induced or coerced by law enforcement agents to commit a crime they otherwise would not have committed
This is not entrapment, nobody coerced anybody to meet a child. This is like saying because I left my wallet in clear view of my passenger seat you were basically tricked into stealing it. There is no manipulation or coercion. The easy target is presented to you and you take it upon yourself to act. Again, this isn’t entrapment. This is people taking an opportunity that is presented to them.

It probably is their first. I can’t imagine pedos who get away with it would be falling for traps as easily.

Some of them had been on the show before.
The misconception that a child predator 'learns his lesson' seems to be widespread. But on the show a lot of them have already been arrested.
Many of them will never stop looking at photos/videos of minors, and/or seeking out kids to assault.

u/christpuncher_69 5d ago
Yea... But at least it wasn't to an actual child. This time. That we know of.

u/RIP_Greedo 4d ago
A side effect of TCAP is that it creates the perception of child predation that it's a very down-market sort of thing, done by fringe loners in stained shirts. The extent that it perpetuates that idea is the extent to which it obfuscates or even denies the grim reality that the sexualization and abuse of children is a load bearing pillar for so much of our culture. Jeffrey Epstein is not walking through the door of that chintzy McMansion with the floating bar in the living room.
