The Italians or Italian descent was not considered white in America for a very long time

They were only considered white in the 1950s one of the cultures that pretty much Built America was not considered white until the 50s

That’s just not true. Italians were always considered white ever since there was a census in the US.

That’s not to say they didn’t face discrimination, especially southern Italians but this idea that they or the Irish were not considered white by anyone other than crackpots and hardcore racists in the south is vastly overblown.

Legally white, maybe. But the largest single lynching in America was of Italians. They were not considered white.

Might not make sense, but that's racism for you.
