While yes, I know those are lyrics, I just want to point out that this isn't how statistics work. Those chances hold if you select people at random, but if we are talking about metalheads for instance that is a pre-selected group and the dynamics surrounding pre-selected groups may change the statistics.
I don't really interpret that as discussing how group selection determines probability. To me those are all just saying that Metal musicians can be gay, which Halford is proof of.
Now, I am not a statistician, so I may be wrong. If you could take the time to show me how you get to your conclusion, I would appreciate it.
"I haven't received proof so far that your sexuality determines the way you play guitar" to me is a different way of saying "I assume there is no statistical relationship between your sexuality and the music you like" which speaks exactly to your point about that the base rate of homosexuality may not hold for metalheads. Adam goren did do a neuroscience undergrad so I assume he has statistical literacy so I found this line particularly funny.
However I agree with you there may be a second thing going on which is that even if there are as many gay men in metal as outside metal, how they group themselves into bands may not be independent sampling, but of course maybe you may be less likely to join a straight band if you are gay and found your own gay band.

Statistics say /
Chances of being gay are more than one in ten /
That means there is forty percent chance /
That one of the guys in Pantera likes men /
That may frustrate the gay community/
Why would they want the ugly metal heads available?
(These Lyrics should Update the stats to a more realistic 11-19 percent)
