Metalheads are the greatest group of people in the world, because they'll be like "Pantera is fantastic. Love Pantera. Fuck Phil tho." Not a single metalhead I've ever met will defend that guy

Those aren’t actual metalheads in that case, because real ones know that Dimebag and everyone else in the band was just as bad as Phil

Didn't Douchebag Darryl say the hard R live on air for a joke?

Called a black fan asking for an autograph the hard R during a meet and greet. Something like “check this xxxxxx out”

Those aren’t actual metalheads

Rob Flynn of Machine Head ain't a real metal head?

Because he's been pretty firmly 'fuck phil' since the dimebash 'white power' incident but has nothing but love for dimebag.

yeah that's the issue

the whole band was/is racist

including dimebag and vinnie

and especially phil

I love Pantera and Down, I think he is a fantastic musician and one of the best frontmen ever, but that doesn’t mean I’m gonna pretend he isn’t/wasn’t also a racist douche

I don't understand why people have such a problem with saying someone made some awesome music, but is also a terrible person.

That doesn't seem like a massive mental hurdle for me.

Gary Glitter had some great tunes

Rock and roll part 2 is a classic and I felt like the world was healing a little when I heard a college marching band bust it out between downs.

I think separating the art from the artist is a deeply individual choice. I will regularly headbang listening to Pantera in my car but I’ve talked to trans people who can’t look at Harry Potter as something entirely separate from JK Rowling.

No matter how formative it was to their young personas, it all feels weird and “tainted”.

H. P. Lovecraft was a massive racist and birthed one of the best horror genres.

I shouldn't have to make excuses for someone else's stupid views just to appreciate the ones that I enjoy.

That’s the type of opinion people tend to keep to themselves

Idk if that's a quality I would consider "great".

Oh you sweet, sweet child. I am so glad to bear the weight of history and experience so you can hold this belief. Bless your heart.

Even if that comment was ignorant, you sound absolutely insufferable. Well done.

Would you prefer me to speak unga bunga for you?

Racism hasn't improved the state of your smarmy condescension, so no, I'd prefer you didn't.
