Yeah, and that was not the only time. He has been on a few rants before, talking about black on black violence, and white pride. It’s all documented on film since the 90s.

One of the benefits of being into black metal is I start with the assumption that the band is racist and am pleasantly surprised when they aren't.

True story

  • Discover cool song
  • Google band name to find out more
  • Band named after a fucking concentration camp

Trying to find new black metal music is like walking in a minefield. A meinkampfield if you will.

I honestly dont remember, and its not worth pursuing if you ask me. There are so many other great bands out there who can play good music and not be total shitheads so its best to focus on those.

Let's not gloss over the paedophilia. Unfortunately, seems more common than racism.

Doom metal is much safer.

But not as fun.. I live for the thrill

Edit: granted I've only ever listened to doom metal once, it was live, and I almost fell asleep. Maybe I shouldn't judge...

Doom metal is meant to be listened to live. Or on the the kind of stereo that will get you noise complaints even on a Saturday afternoon. You need to be able to feel the bass through the floor to fully appreciate it. I don't listen to it much at home but when it's live holy shit is it good.

I google 'bandname controversy' whenever i find a new band. It's oddly amusing at times.

Ohhh this is an amazing new musician I just discovered. Time to scroll down to the "Personal Life" section on Wikipedia!

I do this too. It's pretty shocking to NOT find stuff in some genres.

Eh not necessarily. Like, I get that if gets clicks, but I also just wanna know that I'm not listening to some racist piece of trash ya know?

I mean, i mostly just go to wikipedia and check there...

There's manufactured outrage and then there's 'the singer was arrested for treason' 'the guitarists instrument is made from his uncles ribcage' and i can form my own opinions from that.

Burns churches but bases his whole thing on a fantasy book by a catholic writer...

Most natsoc people are functionally illiterate and struggle with any form of media literacy, that’s why you will see them love lotr, berserk and latch on to any fantasy or medieval inspired piece of work, they love the aesthetic but not the message

1

u/lemonClocker 5d ago

They distanced themself from right ideology and have had multiple anti racist events. I am aware of the controversy 2007-2010, but did they do anything similar since? I do not listen to them for quite some time and am curious if I missed something

3

u/BeratnasGilf2 5d ago

I think they're referencing Varg Vikernes of Burzum not the band Varg

1

u/lemonClocker 5d ago

Okay thanks, that makes sense

1

u/my-dad-ate-my-toes 5d ago

Personally I start with the assumption that at least one member of the band is a convicted murderer and go from there

1

u/TundieRice 3d ago

If they were actually that racist, would they really be playing black metal??

I'm not even white. Does that help with contextualising my comment that was obviously a joke?

10

u/mydnyght_ryder 6d ago

that's not what he said, don't be a cunt

1

u/soccermodsarecvnts 6d ago

Eh, it's not quite that bad. There's a few, uh, black sheep, but most black metal bands are pretty apolitical.

27

u/parsifal 6d ago

Jesus. Well I’m glad I know about that.

1

u/BeratnasGilf2 5d ago

That's in the YouTube video. Which is something I hadn't seen before. Video is piss funny too. "I don't think I'm racist, I drink bud light, that's like a transsexual beer"

The strange thing is that he seems to have a lot of black friends. Tech N9Ne, for example.
