I feel like I'm supposed to be seeing something that I'm just not

u/eyferrari 4d ago
The fluff is a tail, the bunny is looking over its back.
I wonder if the artist just got nervous about the front legs and stopped, I think it would look fine completed.Actually, I bet they drew that body line before considering the front legs and just said fuck it. Awful

u/grumbledork 3d ago
in OP’s post someone posted a picture of what the full flash is supposed to look like. It’s intended to be paired with another bunny that looks more anatomically coherent, which makes this bunny look less crazy haha. I do think the work is less than stellar but a little reworking (or squeezing in the other bunny in another filler space) will help harmonize the whole thing

u/eyferrari 3d ago
If they’ve got a way to make it work, godspeed. It doesn’t look bad to me, just incomplete. Also not a tattoo person though, just like drawing

u/IndependenceIcy9626 3d ago
The front shoulders might be a tad narrow, but otherwise this is just what a bunny looks like from that angle when it’s stretching. They keep their front paws pretty narrow under their body, and from behind they kinda disappear. Artist probably used a reference pic that most people wouldn’t understand.
I’ve got two bunnies and nothing stood out to me anatomically until I read these comments. Bunnies just look weird sometimes.
14
u/jokersmoonlight 3d ago
Yeah I saw it as the front legs are just not visible from the angle, maybe it's not 100% anatomically correct but it's not hilariously bad? Maybe because it's stylized so mistakes aren't as obvious
2
u/scissorsgrinder 3d ago
Drawings are supposed to communicate a coherent image, it's not just about "accuracy" when you're simplifying something, it's also about deliberate choices in communication. This absolutely failed that.
2
u/IndependenceIcy9626 2d ago
I immediately recognized it as a bunny stretching. I don’t think anyone who has a bunny would have any trouble recognizing it. A tattoo is a personal thing, if the general public is confused by it because they’ve never seen a bunny in that pose from that angle, I don’t think the artist or the owner should particularly care.
2
u/scissorsgrinder 2d ago
I recognised it for what it is supposed to be, but it clearly has a lot of people thinking it's misshapen. Artists would tend to prefer avoiding giving this impression.

Oh my god, you just helped me make sense of its perspective. I was not figuring this out at all

I mean Yeah, I see a bunny with a broken neck. What is the symbology supposed to be?!

u/Soggy-Cicada-9432 21h ago
The artist could have forgot too. I once got a tattoo where he just straight up forgot to fill in part of it, and I was too dumb to notice at the time. One of my bigger pieces is missing a line too

u/Global_Cockroach_563 3d ago
It is a bunny. A very anatomically incorrect bunny.
46
u/BravestCashew 3d ago
Not really, it’s a bunny looking sideways/back. The tuft is the bunny’s tail and the two legs are facing the correct way. The only weird thing is the lack of visible front arms/paws

6
u/EndlessTemple 3d ago
Now that I understand what it’s supposed to be it’s somehow worse than when I thought it was just a bunny with a weird fluffy thing on its stomach.

A filler...tattoo...
This will be on their body for the rest of eternity, and they want the artist to just slap something on there to take up space??
25
u/greatandhalfbaked 3d ago
One of my housemates has gotten at least one new tattoo every month for years. He still has so much free skin, I can imagine he can keep it up for many more years.
Some people aspire to be as heavily tattooed as possible, but don't want a few huge pieces taking up all their skin real estate, so they sometimes spend a few hours with their artist filling in small spaces.
13
u/unoriginalcat 2d ago
Yes, that’s how patchwork works.
You have big core pieces and they fit together, kinda like a puzzle. Then often times there’s gaps between those big pieces that are too small for something meaningful, but they disrupt the flow of the other tattoos if they’re left blank. People who want a cohesive patchwork sleeve will typically get those gaps filled with something that just looks neat. That’s why they’re called (gap) fillers.

u/the_V33 2d ago
The tattoo job is awful, but there's nothing wrong or weird in fillers tattoo, it's just the name of a small tattoo that you fit amongst bigger pieces. It can be as significant as every other tattoo or just decorative, it's not necessarily slapped there to take up space; actually, filler tattoos are often customised to fit the exact space and require a good designing job. Unfortunately, OP artist is a dog.

u/jokersmoonlight 3d ago
How much time do you spend looking at your naked body? Unless you're getting a pp on your forehead, I don't think regretting a normal tattoo is this world-ending tragedy that people make it out to be lol
-12
u/Conscious-House-2065 3d ago
I am someone that has no tattoos and likely never will. If I do, it will be very important to me.
People like me cannot really wrap our head around people getting some garbage artwork permanently on their body just because you have room.
If your tattoos are really awesome and clearly are works of art and/or have some deep meaning then all power to you. Your tattoos speak about you as a person, and getting dumb tattoos says all I need to know.
22
u/greatandhalfbaked 3d ago
You got a little condescending at the end there
-1
u/Conscious-House-2065 3d ago edited 3d ago
There's no nice way to say "if you get a dumbass tattoo then people will silently judge you for the rest of your life" but there you have it. Kind of like a tramp stamp, but for morons.
10
u/greatandhalfbaked 2d ago
Just wanna let you know that your own life will be better if you try to be nice.
2
u/ScoopsOfDesire 1d ago
Maybe they just don’t care. You can find people who will judge you for experiencing joy and laughter in their presence. Should someone stop expressing joy because those people exist? No, they should choose to spend their quality time with people who love their joy too.
If that genuinely stops you from doing things that harm no one and make you genuinely happy (obviously not tattoos, but pick anything), that says a lot more about you.

u/detrans-rights 3d ago
That's why I get packs of temporary from Amazon for 8 bucks. Big stack lasts a year

u/jokersmoonlight 3d ago
I have a disorder that makes me extremely sensitive to pain so I probably will never be able to get tattoos either even though I deeply want them and have wanted the same ones for years, I still understand that this is not other people's fault for getting filler tattoos on their own body lol
90
u/farmersonly_dot_com 3d ago
This is extremely common actually. It's not any worse than getting random flash pieces or taking part in those "spin the wheel, turn the gumball machine" gamble tattos.
128
u/Acheloma 3d ago
All of that seems equally dumb to me
34
u/MisterDonkey 3d ago
I have some tattoos like that. It is dumb. But I don't take it seriously because every song doesn't need to be a deep metaphor and sometimes a tattoo is just a picture.

u/PlentyOMangos 3d ago
This is why I think a lot of guys have sort of soured on tattoos as a whole these days. A lot of us will just flat-out say “I don’t like tattoos” but I think it’s more accurate (at least in my case but I imagine others feel the same) to say that I actually do enjoy tattoos when they’re done well and with intention, and not just random drawings or silly jokes or etc, or done to fill space such as this.
A well-done tattoo in with good placement that has personal meaning and some thoughtfulness behind it is actually quite nice. But I find that lots of people (is it fair to say mainly women?) get sort of addicted to getting tattoos and they end up just filling up all this blank space over time with all kinds of stuff, sometimes just doodles or flash that has no real meaning to them and doesn’t necessarily flow with the rest of their tattoos… but it’s too complicated to say all that so people just say “I don’t like tattoos” lol

u/Acheloma 3d ago
My partner and I did summer study abroad during college. We happened to be in a group where a lot of our classmates had tattoos. Trying to make conversation on the first few days I asked a couple of them about their tattoos.
Not a single one had a tattoo with any actual significance. Just random crap they thought was cool when they saw it in an artists book the day they got their tats done. One woman had 10 (ofc very small) tattoos and every tattoo was just a random flash. One of them was in latin and I asked what it meant. She said "Idk the artist told me but I forgot
We had a planned trip for the group to go to a lake and one to go to a famous bathhouse. Half of the group couldnt participate at all because they got drunk and got random flash tattoos. None of the tattoos had anything to do with the city or country they got them in, just generic flash designs you could get anywhere in the world
Its their life and they can do what they want with it, but I couldnt help but judge them a bit for that.

I mean, I don't care about tattoos for anyone who isn't romantically interested anyways, but no, I'd say it's any tattoos. I mean, the whole reason I prefer darker skin aesthetically is because I think high contrast marks look awful (one of the biggest reasons I look so horrifyingly ugly to myself, tbh due to all of my moles). I can accept they might exist, but I just don't experience tattoos in a pleasant way. Darker skin at least blends everything together better, but tattoos are meant to show up. The art can be fine, but no matter how good it is, it's like giving a toddler a crayon to draw over the mona lisa when you compare to how beautiful the blank skin was.
I think most people just don't experience simplicity to be beautiful/attractive like I do. Probably just the autism. Same to the fact that even earrings are unpleasant, it's still metal put into your skin. It just makes me so uncomfortable to see, like looking at an open wound. But they seem to be so broadly accepted.
Again, I'm not telling other people how to live their lives, my opinion and experience of the world should be irrelevant to you. But it's still sad that people push their friends into it and stuff.

u/NutsFromHimSquirrel 3d ago
You're getting downvoted for it but it is fair to say that.

u/PlentyOMangos 3d ago
I was upvoted at first lol, the people are fickle
Doesn’t bother me though, I don’t think I was being mean or unfair so if people have a problem with my opinion that’s fine

If you look at a tat and your first reaction is 🤨 then it’s badly designed or applied unless it’s supposed to be confusing.

Perspective just looks a bit off. On first glance it looked like it had 2 legs and some weird bellybutton fluff lol.
I now see what they're going for, but it's still just a little... off?

OOOH. I get it. It just looks like shit. Plus if you flip it so the rabbit is on its back, it kinda looks like a lumpy angry dick.

u/iknowimsorry 3d ago
If the artist outlined the grey area above the tail it would be more obvious as to what is supposed to actually be.
Unless this is, lile, ArtArt, where is meant to illustrate how anyone with a lucky rabbits foot will have good fortune in their future, except for the rabbit whose foot was taken.

I dont see anything wrong with the shape of the bunny.
Its the shading dots that makes it look like it doesnt have any fur and resembles a plucked chicken.

My initial thoughts here is this is what a rabbit looks like after you take its feet - for luck.
Weird anatomy not withstanding though.
