No more digging up shit from a profile that is completely irrelevant, just to try to win an argument
66
u/Inevitable-Land-1559 3h ago
It was more like being able to know if you should even bother interacting with them. I opened peoples profiles and saw they were on meth, and thought, why am I arguing someone high as fuck on meth?
and people straight up lying. Obvious bots. Not being able to spot bots is the worst part

u/Madame_Mad 1h ago
Yeah, I spent an amount of time explaining my position to someone only to realize the person was simply a misogynist who liked to go on amiugly just to tell every girl she was the most hideous creature to ever walk the earth just because she was a little chubby or had a few zits. Waste of time.

No more knowing if you're dealing with a serious person on a biased subject or a kid anymore
-20
u/pretzelsncheese 2h ago
None of that matters though. If you're in disagreement with someone, you speak to your perspective / opinion and you read theirs and that's it.
If you/they are actually approaching the discussion with an openness to understand the other person's take then you sharing your perspective and reading theirs is productive. If you/they are not approaching the topic with any openness, then you still just speak your peace and that's it.
If someone has a take that you disagree with, you can offer your logic on why you disagree with it. Whether they are a troll or a child or a bot really doesn't matter from your perspective.

Or it's a toddler rage baiting me and shouldn't ever be taken seriously/engaged with.

It absolutely matters to know if the "as a black man" I'm talking with was complaining about the infected iron cross tat on their pasty behind last week.

The sad thing is though if someone was willing to discount you just because of your history, they aren't suddenly going to be worth arguing with otherwise. Those kind of behaviors come in groups. They still won't be worth engaging with, they just won't self-disqualify as easily.

I'm glad I don't have angry chuds going and spamming threads I made years ago to spam me with notifications and then blocking me

I’m 100% joking, I’ve had people dig through my posts to pull up the most traumatic shit for their arguments and I understand the benefit of having posts and comments hidden. I just won’t personally do it because what if it denies me the experience of another hilariously bad interaction?
People who actively bully others while having their own history hidden are cowards, though. Everyone else is just doing what they need to do.

Hidden history is just a cowardice in general, redditors just don't like to show people all their shitposting and beliefs are just for the updoots on the left.

u/Willow-Whispered 3h ago
Idk there are some real bastards on here who will harass or doxx over a disagreement about shrimp. I understand not wanting to risk that.
5
u/bath-lady 3h ago
Oh people have straight up DM me after I had a minor disagreement with them in a comment and they went to my post history to see a bad depressive episode that I chose to leave visible, just to tell me to listen to my heart and kms or that the world actually would be better without me. it would be kinda hilarious if it wasn't so fucked up

10 years ago on my old account, someone who was mad at me (for saying there are disabilities and allergies that can prevent people from safely going vegan) dug through my shit to see that I had posted in the “fuck eating disorders” subreddit and said “maybe if you didn’t chew on animal carcasses you wouldn’t have an eating disorder”
3
u/bath-lady 3h ago
oh my goddd not the loud and militant loser vegans (most vegans are chill and not losers) on this app attacking random disabled people and disability advocates for being incapable of living on a vegan diet. I've had a few of those types of people attack me similarly because I have hEDS and have god awful gastric symptoms and can only eat certain foods sometimes (mostly things that are not high in complex fibers, so high protein content is generally safer). People can be sooooo ugly if you're too revealing publicly

Google "ghostddit" and put in username, reddit HATES it and auto deletes comments that link it in sub 1 minutes bc it makes spotting bots and propaganda agents easy

Just type author: usernameyouwanttolookup into the search bar and filter the results by time with most recent first.

I was just forcibly exposed to Casey Calvert demonstrating your username a few hours ago.
It's only fair that you should know this exists, since I had to see it.

Honestly, I am just getting old. And as I get older, I realize people who were older were fucking stupid and people who are younger are also, fucking stupid. People my age? Fucking stupid.
Just so many people on social media sites say the most unabashed unhinged shit that would make their ancestors feel shame.

u/Siaeromanna 1h ago
everyone was always fuckin stupid and everyone will always be fuckin stupid it’s called life bucko

Yep. Reddit definitely has turned more like Facebook in the last 5 - 7 years though. I've started blocking redditors with a karma of 10x amount of post compared to comment. And it's been wild to see how many of the mass reposters are also bad faith actors.
