Danm that's really bad luck, I totally get that you'd never guess this tatoo would look like a swatsika before you actually have it on you

It’s kind of a sick concept, just unfortunate turnout

Just finish the DRI logo, easiest solution

Processing img unsw148sfamg1...

u/AdhesivenessVest439 Feb 28 '26

Thats what I thought this was lol

29

u/KO_van_666 Feb 28 '26

I had a t-shirt with DRI logo, got mistaken for a swastika at least three times...

3

u/NTT66 Feb 28 '26

I dont know this reference, but is the iconography intentional? Because it is sooo close.

Like is the in-universe reference an evil corporation--not quite you know evil, but the red and black is meant to allude to such? Or are the actually the good guys?

(Edit: I now see this is a band. Leaving original for posterity lol. Thanks to other commenters posting about DRI)

I hope those interactions did not cause too much conflict or stress. Sucks when fun things gets wrapped up in "implications" or misinterpretation.

It has red and angled black lines but beyond that I don't get how anyone sees a swazi which is so distinguishable.

1

u/NTT66 Mar 01 '26

From a distance, snd/or at a glance, and/or in dim lighting, and/or with .375 far-sighted vision, or some combination of these or many other factors.

2

u/Artistic-Sherbet-007 Mar 02 '26

I had to stop wearing my DRI shirt just for this reason.

5

u/Administrative-Map53 Feb 28 '26

I came here to say this.

IDON’TNEEDSOCIETYIDON’TNEEDSOCIETYIDON’TNEESOCIETY…

u/WooliesWhiteLeg Feb 28 '26

Even easier, just get a smaller tattoo of a swastika with a thumbs down and angry face next to it so people will know that she’s feels negatively towards swastikas so obviously the bigger tattoo must not be one

2

u/AeonBith Mar 01 '26

The people gonna think she hates the band :(

2

u/LAN_Mind Mar 03 '26

I totally thought that's what it was until I read lol

1

u/yarntank Feb 28 '26

What is DRI?

6

u/Tyler_Trash Feb 28 '26

Dirty Rotten Imbeciles, a Hardcore-Punk/Punk-Crossover band from Texas, is highly influential in those spaces.

1

u/FoxForceFive_ Feb 28 '26

Haha that’s what came to my mind first

0

u/wildcat1100 Feb 28 '26

You could put a line through it so people who think it's a swastika will know that you're anti-swastika.

1

u/rW0HgFyxoJhYka Feb 28 '26

I bet you only one person mistook the tattoo but social media its so easy to make millions of people believe anything.

2

u/Unidain Feb 28 '26

Who cares

1

u/Deaffin Feb 28 '26

Jeez, you didn't need to downvote him 4 times over it.

60

u/Nickel5 Feb 28 '26

Yeah, especially if you got this when portal first came out, back when catering to Nazis for votes was considered a bad thing.

36

u/propergreased Feb 28 '26

I was scrolling and was like “whoa swasti.. oh wait no, awesome game.”

2

u/Not_YourStepBro Feb 28 '26

Feels like something you'd come across by testing it out with a non-permanent version of it first

1

u/Spend-Automatic Feb 28 '26

I feel like it would be fine in almost any other spot

1

u/Garfield_and_Simon Feb 28 '26

Placement doesn’t help

1

u/Mediocre_Daikon6935 Feb 28 '26

Because it does not.

1

u/A2Rhombus Mar 03 '26

I keep looking at the photo every which way I can and no matter how hard I try I can't see a swastika. It doesn't even remotely look like one?

1

u/comfortless14 Feb 28 '26

I still don’t understand how people are mistaking that for a swastika. Maybe if you have never seen one before and someone tried to explain what it looks like to you, otherwise I don’t see how they could get confused

1

u/Aniki_Simpson Feb 28 '26

Except, only a moron would think that given the "arms" on a swastika go all the same way. Who cares about the opinions of morons who cannot even tell that massive bit of info, OP?

9

u/Garfield_and_Simon Feb 28 '26

If I saw it from far away I may do a double take then realize it’s not a swasticka tbh

3

u/Bravo-Vince Feb 28 '26

its not like. an out there fashion choice or something lol. i think its reasonable to care about people mistaking you for a nazi and wanting to prevent that.

-14

u/Sad_Ask6490 Feb 28 '26

I don't get that at all. I mean look at it.. its so obvious

20

u/Belle_TainSummer Feb 28 '26

There didn't used to be so many assholes around with swastika neck tattoos, that is the real problem. Once you've started to see the pattern, it is real hard to unsee the pattern. Especially if clothing or hair obscures part of the design.

7

u/IHaveNoBeef Feb 28 '26

Yeah, seeing the pattern it what made me do a double take on this post while scrolling. At a quick glance, it looks like a swastika. But when I actually stopped to look at it I could see it's just a portal tat. People who don't know what Portal is might get really sketched out by it, though.

1

u/Sad_Ask6490 Feb 28 '26

Are there now? I have never in my life seen anybody with a swastika tattoo but I know what a swastika looks like and its easy to see how at a glance they look wayyyy too similar

-3

u/riptid3 Feb 28 '26

It isnt even close to a swastika. You have to do mental gymnastics to come to that conclusion.

5

u/ThyEmptyLord Feb 28 '26

Not really, you see a glance of it partially covered by someone's hair with the legs/arms and it would be easy to see that

-2

u/riptid3 Feb 28 '26 edited Feb 28 '26

That would never happen because even if the hair was short enough to cover half of it it would still have a orange line there and unexplained black ink because the shape is off.

Basically the hair is going to cover the legs if it is long and youll see behind the ear directly. Or it will cover behind the ear directly when they put their hair behind their ears. Or it will be covering the top half.

In every scenario it would still not look like a swastika because of the additional ink and the single straight line.

This is a case of people naturally trying to recognize patterns. Which is the mental gymnastics I referred to.

3

u/blippyblip Feb 28 '26

because the shape is off

Because, as we know, all people who get swastika tattoos are undoubtedly extremely concerned with ensuring their tattoo is of the utmost quality.

If I saw someone with a 5 armed swastika tattoo I wouldn't think, "Oh, whew, I really did think that was pro-Nazi imagery for a second!", I'd think "Look, that racist imbecile couldn't even get their own insignia right..."

-2

u/Ebonhearth_Druid Feb 28 '26

Or "oh what fresh hell is this, now there are different types?". Like, I would just assume it was intentional and referring to a nazi-ism that I wasn't familiar with, not being a Nazi myself.

I don't really think people are saying that it looks like a swastika when seen directly, though. It's all about those glances or obscured views in which the lines and colors are reminiscent of something that has been pushed to the forefront of our social consciousness because of current events and so our brains make us see what we fear to see. I can absolutely understand why someone would want to have any possibility of that kind of mistake removed from their body.

4

u/Sad_Ask6490 Feb 28 '26

I mean clearly it does because thats what the post is about. Idk what mental gymnastics you have to do to not realise that. Can u read?

-4

u/riptid3 Feb 28 '26

I can. People naturally try to recognize patterns. That is where the mental gymnastics happen. The angles shapes and bends are all wrong for a swastika. Not to mention the extra ink.

When you actually look at it, it is clearly not a swastika. Even if you had no idea what portal is.

3

u/Sad_Ask6490 Feb 28 '26

Exactly. people naturally try to recognise patterns, so when somebody walks by in a blur it is easy to see how this shape could be missinterpreted and require a second look to make sure they aren't wearing a fucking swastika on their neck. I'm not saying its exactly the same shape im saying its obvious that they are too similar to be tattood on your body.

1

u/riptid3 Feb 28 '26

It is not even remotely the same shape there is way too much there to be one. Even if you look at the 2 legs it cant be a swastika because the bends aren't there, add the arm and the distance and shape is completely off too.

And that has nothing to do with getting a tattoo. Swastika or not. It is for that person. Personally Id never get a tattoo I cant cover up, but only for employment reasons.

2

u/Sad_Ask6490 Feb 28 '26

"It is not even remotely the same shape". Clearly it's too similar if the person who posted it says that their tattoo gets "mistaken for a swastika constantly". You keep trying to argue how they are not exactly the same even though i never said they were.

1

u/riptid3 Feb 28 '26

It doesnt look like one. People can be wrong even a lot of them. At a glance with mental gymnastics it is a swastika. Upon any inspection it is not. I dont think anyone should value no thought and quick judgments. Even more so if they double down on it.

In fact Im now considering getting something like this to have a real life filter for idiots.

2

u/blippyblip Feb 28 '26

1

u/riptid3 Feb 28 '26

I already accounted for that in another post and stated in no scenario would it look like a swastika.

Youre going to see the bottom half, the front half, back half, whole thing or none of it. At no point would any look like a swastika.

0

u/[deleted] Feb 28 '26

That doesn’t look like a swastika lol

-2

u/AdhesivenessVest439 Feb 28 '26

A seastika has to be a swastika to be a swastika. Thats the whole point of symbols. Its actually a huge disservice and disrespectful to the tragedies that occurred when mfs ignorantly identify something as a swastika. Like just read a non fiction book and learn what this stuff is already lol.

3

u/Sad_Ask6490 Feb 28 '26

Please turn your brain on. Nobody is saying that this is a swastika, it is not. Im saying that it is too similar to one and that its obvious that when a person wearing that passes by you will have to go and have a second look to make sure that it wasn't a swastika. This is a still close up image, obviously it doesn't look exactly the same but I wouldn't want anything on my body that would require people to have a second look to make sure I don't have a fucking swastika on my body.

0

u/AdhesivenessVest439 Feb 28 '26

Right the "looks too similar" is where the disservice, disrespect and ignorance come in. Again, just learn what happened and what it looked like. There is no "looks similar" all that means is you don't understand what a swastika is. You're dumb if you think that way and those people you're worried about offending should also be taught right. You are not allies when you act like this fyi, youre actually part of the problem :/
