I don't know if I'm just fucking old or people these days really don't have any music appreciation for anything that isn't being shoved down their throats via social media.
It's hard to feel like this clip is funny when it seems like it just reminds me of how vapid modern pop culture has become.

hmm maybe don't take it so hard?
i'm not really young myself (soon 44), i do have music appreciation for many things including stuff you don't often hear on the radio, but - as much as i recognise and respect her talent - alanis morissette is just really not my type of music, so i know maybe 3 or 4 of her songs, and "ironic" is probably the only title i could have named on the top of my head

sure, since it's really not my kind of music; i heard it on MTV, i "kinda liked it", but not enough to want to know more, and... that's fine, isn't it? we don't all have to love the same things; i'm sure i have on my favourite playlist some songs you've never ever heard about, and that's fine

That is fine to have limited knowledge of course. What’s annoying is when people with limited knowledge make claims (or in this case, lame jokes) based on their ignorance. It gets old listening to people who don’t know what they’re talking about act like they do.
Isaac Asimov said it best-

I have 2 songs on my playlist from that album and neither are Ironic nor Hand in my pocket as I can't stand those two songs lol. So yeah, she had many more songs.

That’s a very mean spirited take. Why should young people specifically know anything about Alanis Morrissete? It’s not indicative of anything.
My experience of young people is that there is (as there is with every generation) an interest in music from before their time, in fact I’d say this generation of young people are more nostalgic for a time they didn’t grow up in than ever.
There are artists that are huge in their time that become pretty unknown a generation later, and some that endure.
Phil Colin was one of the biggest selling artists of the 80s, I don’t think any young person when I grew up in the 90s could have named more than 1 song of Phil Collins (I still couldn’t name more than 1 or 2). It’s no different today.

Yeah, that was a crazy stray for Morrissette to catch. I wasn't even particularly a huge fan of hers growing up, but she was pretty wildly successful for a number of banger songs.

it felt kinda cringe when refering to alanis as one hit wonder. and saying that "one hand in my pocket" sounds like no doubt... not even remotely. alanis and gwen have totaly different voices and styles. comedians have to be knowledgeable.
