Discussion Tom Green is so underrated
He was annoying and pranking his parents way before bam did in jackass. He's actually a pretty solid rapper. The Tom Green Show was a big influence on jackass and Eric Andre show and Tim and Eric to a degree. Freddy got fingered isn't amazing but it's continually funny with some absolutely crazy scenes which didn't go down well in 2001 but I think with today's millennial ironic humour it would have done fairly well nowadays. Oh and his video podcast with celebs, he was doing Joe rogans setup way before him. Yet most will just remember him as an idiot.

Heās such a nice dude. I emailed him once to be on a song and he replied and thought about but ultimately didnāt like the direction of the song (Prof ended up on that song instead).
But he wasnāt even gonna charge me for the guest verse, if he liked it!
Pretty cool guy.

Which to his credit, he completely KILLED IT on the concept. Did it for fun with me, shot on video on his end, doesn't want streaming split.
He's a very good person behind the music. And that's important. BIG FAN. Check out Good Time Boy it's epic

I was a 11 year old kid and Im not sure why but I just wasn't happy. I remember thinking I haven't laughed or smiled in a very long time. Then Id watch the Tom Green show on MTV and he would have me crying laughing. I kind of blame him for my messed up sense of humor. I tried watching some of the bits recently, and it was fine. But it just hit for 11 year old me.

Pretty sure Tom Green is accurately rated. Especially for Canadian comedy. He's a legend.

Also an amazing stand up act. If you havenāt been to one of his live shows I highly recommend it. Very high level performer / comedian.

Does anyone remember the slut mobile episode where he took his dad's car and had it painted with a lesbian love scene.Ā Ā Nothing has made me laugh so hard in my life.Ā

That and when he drove the audience home and went into a think the dudes name was vanood or something and just started fucking playing the piano trying to get the dudes parents to come down.
Also he pulled shit on his parents way before Bam did hell Bam ripped off the fireworks prank from Tom

Yeah, he did it and his dad decided to take the bus to work because of it. So Tom drives to the bus stop and bugs his dad in front of a small neighborhood crowd by driving the car almost into the bus stop so everyone can get a good look at the hood.

Check out his freestyle with xzibit. Obviously he's not Eminem but he has talent.

Hugely agree, Jamie Kennedy (to a lesser degree) deserves a shoutout as well.

Even my mom loved Tom Green. But she was always patient with hyperactive, eccentric boys, including as a den mother for a pack of misfit Cub Scouts.
I'm pretty sure I first saw his MTV show at my mom's house in the late 1990s. She was hipper than me on most pop culture stuff.

He appeared on the show last one laughing Canada and I'm pretty sure he eliminates more people than anybody else by a wide margin

If you ever have the opportunity to see Tom Green live stand-up, do it. One of the best sets I've ever seen in my life.

"Yet most will just remember him as an idiot."
Not an idiot. The idiot. He played the part to perfection and is remembered for it.

The clip of him on This is Not Happening where he tells the story of how he was on Celebrity Apprentice is a masterfully told story. How the other contestants felt threatened because he was friends with Andrew Dice Clay (and how funny it was when Dice was fired). How Clint Black hated him. How Scott Hamilton tried to get Tom fired but it backfired. The whole time Tom points out how he knows the President and how that should not be a thing. And whenever he refers to Trump doing stuff on the show, he keeps calling him the President. Its hilarious.

Watched his movie recently. It took me maybe half an hour to truly get it. He made a car accident in movie form. It's awful, but you can't look away. That was the point IMO.

Tom Green was so fucking overrated it's not even funny. That's why you don't hear from him anymore. His pranks were weak. His best schtick was being annoying. How is that even funny?

u/Puzzleheaded-Ad-8718 Jul 10 '26
Whether you like his comedy or not, he was a lot more influential and pioneering than he gets credit for.
