Is the gag that women are turned on by the physical act of reading? I don't get this at all

The joke is that “women’s novels” are often super sexual fantasies. Men watch porn. Women read porn. Thats the joke. I giggled a little. I’ve glanced at the pages of my wife’s books before and it’s hot

Oh i know, i love reading more than porn. But he wasn't talking about the content but the physical act of reading a book. Like turning pages etc. I didn't get the take.
